Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Joe was only 14 when he heard that his ultimate hero Jimi Hendrix had died. Where was he at the time?

Answer: Football Training

At the time Joe was keen to become a famous footballer but when he heard on the radio that Jimi Hendrix had died, he walked off the football pitch and told his coach that he was going to be a guitarist.
2. When Joe was 15 he started teaching guitar. Who was the fabulous space age guitarist amongst his students?

Answer: Steve Vai

The story goes that a very young Steve Vai turned up at Satch's door with a handful of strings and his guitar and asked Satch how to string them up.
3. Satch was 28 before he recorded his first album and he called it "Strange Beautiful Music."

Answer: false

His first album was called "Not of This Earth". The album was totally instrumental and partly produced by John Cuniberti. Cuniberti's car was broken into while they were in the studio and as he tried to clean up the glass, he cut his fingers. They had to leave the studio for the next clients and had run out of tape so Satch and Cuniberti rummaged in the bucket for bits of tape which he spliced together with his bloody fingers.
4. Can you name Joe's second album?

Answer: Surfing with the Alien

"Surfing with the Alien" has the beautiful track "Always with Me, Always with You". I saw him play it live with G3 at the Glasgow Armadillo and decided to have that title engraved on my husband's wedding ring.
5. The third album was different because there were vocals. It was called "Flying in a _____ _____"?

Answer: Blue Dream

"Flying in a Blue Dream" is so different from the first two albums as Satch has a go at singing. He isn't that bad either but was slated in some of the music papers. My personal favourite is "I Believe" where his guitar has such a beautiful tone that it brings you out in goose bumps.
6. With the "Extremist", Satch goes back to instrumental. There is a track dedicated to his wife, which one is it?

Answer: Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness

Joe met Rubina at Art College and they have a son, Zachariah.
7. Satch toured with G3. Who were the first two guitarists to join up?

Answer: Steve Vai & Eric Johnson

On the Glasgow tour, Satch had with him Michael Schenker and Uli Jon Roth but I would have just loved it if Steve Vai had walked on!
8. Going back in time to 1992, Satch appeared in the Guitar Expo in Seville. This was a concert featuring guitar legends and the list of musicians was very impressive. Which British blues/rock vocalist was there who hadn't been seen for quite a while?

Answer: Paul Rodgers

Paul Rodgers didn't look his best but there was never any doubt that the man could sing. He was backed by the most fantastic band imaginable which included, The Satch Man, Steve Vai, Brian May, Joe Walsh and Cozy Powell on drums.
9. In Joe's 1995 album "Joe Satriani" he used a well known British rhythm guitarist called Andy Fairweather Low. Which group did Andy front in the sixties?

Answer: Amen Corner

Andy Fairweather Low has worked with lots of bands since the sixties. Doing mainly session work, he has played with Roger Waters, George Harrison and Eric Clapton.
10. Which guitar is Satch's signature guitar?

Answer: Ibanez

The Ibanez JS Series was specifically designed for him.
