Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the song "You're so Vain" by Carly Simon, I have always sung the line, "you're with some underworld spy or the wife of a postman", but what are the correct words?

Answer: wife of a close friend

Warren Beatty was allegedly the subject of the song. This has never been either confirmed nor denied.
2. What is the correct line to Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive"?

Answer: weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye

This song was released in October 1978, and now is one of the most popular disco tunes ever recorded. Gloria Gaynor is not only a singer but she has tried her hand at acting also by appearing in "That 70's Show" and "Ally McBeal".
3. Crystal Gayle did not sing the line "Doughnuts make my brown eyes blue." What did she actually sing?

Answer: Don't it make my brown eyes blue.

This was Crystal Gayle's first and biggest hit and was one of the most performed songs of the 20th Century. Crystal is not her real name; she was born Brenda Gail Webb in 1951.
4. "Everytime you go away, you take a piece of meat with you." I don't think this is what Paul Young actually sang. What did he really sing?

Answer: you take a piece of me with you

"Every Time You Go Away" was written by Daryl Hall. It was listed on Hall and Oates' album "Voices", but was never released by them as a single.
5. In the second line of the chorus in the Bananarama song, "Robert de Niro's waiting he was talking to Tanya".

Answer: False

In "Robert De Niro's Waiting", he was "talking Italian". Bananarama's lineup changed several times, with Siobhan Fahy leaving the band to join up with Marcella Detroit to form Shakespears Sister.
6. "The ants are my friends, they're blowing in the wind", is not the correct line from the Joan Baez cover hit. What is the correct lyric?

Answer: the answer, my friends, is blowing in the wind.

Bob Dylan wrote the original "Blowin' in the Wind" in 1962. In this song you hear many rhetorical questions regarding war and peace. It has been covered hundreds of times - by The Hollies, Dolly Parton and Bruce Springsteen to name but a few.
7. I particularly like the song "Africa" by Toto, but realised that the line I was singing was totally wrong - "I left my brains down in Africa". What are the correct words?

Answer: I bless the rains down in Africa

"Africa" got to number three in the UK charts in 1983. The song was used in an episode of "Family Guy" when Joe and Bonnie Swanson were getting back together.
8. "It doesn't make a difference if we're naked or not", was definitely not sung by Bon Jovi in "Livin' on a Prayer", but what was?

Answer: It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not.

Bon Jovi are an American rock band from Sayreville, New Jersey. They formed in 1983 and have eleven albums recorded; one of the best known rock bands of the 1980s/1990s. Two of the members of the band, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora, were welcomed into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2009.
9. I remember hearing my younger sister singing this ABBA tune from the top of her voice "See that girl, watch her scream, kicking the dancing queen." What should she really have been singing?

Answer: See that girl, watch that scene, diggin' the dancing queen .

"Dancing Queen" was released in August 1976 and reached number one in 13 countries. ABBA is the first initial of each band member: Agnetha; Benny; Bjorn; Anni-Frid. In 2000 the song came fourth in a Channel 4 poll of The 500 Greatest Songs of all time; it was the only ABBA song to make it onto the poll.
10. And last of all, my all time favourite misheard Christmas lyric from "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" as sung by my four year old son "You'll go down and hit a tree". But what are the right words?

Answer: You'll go down in history.

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen are the names of Santa's other reindeer that are mentioned in the song.
