Campbell recorded two singles with Persian Risk. They went on to record an EP and album. Sweet Savage were from Belfast, N.I. and featured Vivian Campbell, who went onto Def Leppard and Dio. The Tygers Of Pan Tang were formed in Whitley Bay, England in 1978. John Sykes (Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake) joined as second guitarist. Original singer Jess Cox left after the debut album, and Persian Risk vocalist Jon Deverill joined. Saxon have often toured with Motörhead, and ex- Glitter Band drummer Pete Gill, who played on Saxon's first four albums, joined Motörhead in 1984.

He's dressed up as a nagging, rolling-pin wielding mother, warning the girls: "don't stop out too late again tonight. And don't drink too much", to which they (quite rightly) answer "YEAH RIGHT!". "Filthy" Phil did break his neck just after recording "Ace Of Spades", and continued to play wearing a neck brace.

He also broke his wrist and famously taped a drumstick to his hand so he could go on playing. He's wearing spring eyes on the back cover of the album "Bomber".

Petagno worked with Hipgnosis, who did covers for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and UFO amongst others, before Motörhead. British fantasy artist Roger Dean is known for his album covers of bands such as Yes, Uriah Heep and Budgie. During Lemmy's time with Hawkwind, their artwork was by Barney Bubbles, who went on to design sleeves for punk bands, such as The Damned. For "Quark, Strangeness and Charm"(1977) Hawkwind used Hipgnosis, but Petagno had already left!

The star-studded cast also featured J.J. French, Eddie Ojeda, Ronnie James Dio and Tony Iommi. Hammerfall had an album called "Legacy Of Kings"(1989), but no Lemmy. There have been countless bands called Legacy, one being thrash act who changed their name to Testament and found fame. Christian metal band Legacy released an eponymous album in 2010. Black metal Legacy released "Covered In Traitor's Blood" in 2001.

The Plasmatics' Wendy O Williams (R.I.P.) dueted with Lemmy on "Stand By Your Man" in 1982, leading to "Fast" Eddie Clarke leaving the band.

Filthy Animal was on both "Rock 'n' Roll"(1987) and "Another Perfect Day"(1983), although he left Motörhead after the latter, only to come back in 1987. "March ör Die" apparently features three drummers, Filthy Animal starting work on the album and featured on "I Ain't No Nice Guy" but being fired for not learning the tracks properly. Veteran Tommy Aldridge (Ozzy, Whitesnake et al) took over for much of the album, and new recruit, Mickey Dee, did "Hellraiser".

Slash was born Saul Hudson in London, but brought up in Stoke-On-Trent until he was five, when he moved the the USA. He was a BMX champion, and was married to model/actress Renée Suran for five years. Lemmy has never married, although he has two kids.

His family moved to Wales when he was a kid. He left at 17, ending up in London 1n 1967, where he lived with Noel Redding, who got him a job as roadie for The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Motörhead had already shown a Western influence on "Bomber" with tracks like "Dead Men Tell No Tales", "Lawman" and "Sharpshooter", but on "Ace Of Spades" the imagery from their gear to the cover was complete. The photo was shot in a sand quarry in North London but looked just like Sergio Leone's Spaghetti Westerns, most of which were shot in Almería, Spain.

Lemmy is the only Englishman left and he lives in the USA! Drummer Mickey Dee is Swedish and Phil Campbell is Welsh. Of past members, Lucas Fox, "Filthy Animal" Taylor, Larry Wallis, "Fast" Eddie, Pete Gill and Würzel were all born in England, whereas Brian Robertson is Scottish. Tommy Aldridge is the only American to have been in the band (and very briefly).

Answer: He was scruffy, like TV scarecrow Worzel Gummidge

According to Lemmy in his biography, "White Line Fever", Würzel got the name while serving in the British Army, prior to joining Motörhead. When "Fast" Eddie left, Würzel wrote to Lemmy saying "I hear you're looking for an unknown, there's nobody more unknown than me", appealing to Lemmy's love of self-deprecating humour. Motörhead had always been a trio and Lemmy and "Filthy Animal" couldn't decide whether to take on Phil Campbell or Würzel, so invited them both to have a "battle of the axes", but ended up taking on both. Sadly, Würzel passed away 9 July 2011.

Motörhead built a massive bomber stage prop for the accompanying tour. "The Dictator's Moustaches" is by Anna Russo and deals with World War II from the viewpoint of a dog. Céline wrote the nihilistic "Journey to the End of Night", which is partly set during World War I. Higgins wrote "The Eagle Has Landed", a title taken by Saxon.

The two bands put together the Bombers and Eagles tour in 1992. Saxon's huge eagle stage prop is known as "Biff's budgie".

Answer: Pete Way (UFO)

They formed the cornily named Fastway with ex-Humble Pie drummer Jerry Shirley and vocalist Dave King. Way didn't even record with the band and left to tour with Ozzy Osbourne, followed by new band Waysted, then back to UFO. "Fast" Eddie has carried on with Fastway to this day, despite lack of commercial success. Dawson was a founding member of Saxon, but left in 1986.

He toured with other ex member, Graham Oliver, under the name Saxon in the late 1990s, but after legal wrangling they had to change it to Oliver/Dawson Saxon.

Answer: Beer Drinkers And Hell Raisers

The "Beer Drinkers And Hell Raisers" ep featured the ZZ Top song of the same name, plus three other tracks (U.K. issue) including another cover, "I'm Your Witchdoctor" from John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers. The tracks were actually recorded in 1977 at the "Motörhead" album sessions, but not released until 1980. "Tush" is a staple of UK pub rock cover bands, and Motörhead associates Girlschool did it on their album "Hit And Run", 1981.

Answer: He added tambourines to a track

In his biography "White Line Fever" Lemmy says he heard "claves and tambourines" that Stasium had secretly added to the track "Going To Brazil", and fired him. Pete Solley took over. The album was the band's ninth but the first to feature a slow ballad in the shape of title track, "1916", about the dreadful fatalities in World War I, accompanied by a cello.

The sleeve was supposed to show the flags of all the countries involved in the war, but some were forgotten, including big players France, Russia and Serbia. Ooops.

Answer: "The Young Ones", TV show

"Filthy Animal" left as soon as Phil Campbell and Würzel joined, but agreed to do one last performance, "Ace Of Spades" on "The Young Ones", February 1984. Pete Gill joined, and Motörhead toured, starting in Finland 26th June 1984, playing Hammersmith Odeon 5th June, but not for the tenth anniversary, that was a year later!.

They were one of the few heavy bands to get a slot on Indie-rock-biased TV show "The Tube", others being Judas Priest and Twisted Sister. They did "Killed By Death" and "Steal Your Face", shown live in October 1984.

Ian Fraser "Lemmy" Kilmister was born on Christmas Eve 1945 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. Metallica were hugely influenced by Motörhead, and paid tribute by covering "Overkill", "Damage Case", "Stone Dead Forever" and "Too Late, Too Late" as B -sides to various versions of their 1996 single "Hero Of The Day". The other line-ups of Motörhead tribute bands are just my fantasy.
