Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the 1978 hit comedy "Foul Play", starring Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn, what song was playing when Dudley Moore was doing a strip tease in his apartment?

Answer: Staying Alive

Moore, playing "swinger" Stanley Tibbets, thinks he is gonna score with Goldie Hawn's character. After all, she did sit down with him at the singles bar and told him bluntly, "Take me home with you". But all she wanted was to hide from the men out to kill her. So Stanley made her a drink while putting on the Bee Gee's hit from "Saturday Night Fever". It was a hilarious scene.
2. In the 1993 hit "Mrs. Doubtfire", what Aerosmith song is playing in the background as Robin Williams dances with the vacuum cleaner?

Answer: Dude Looks Like A Lady

Williams plays a recently divorced voice actor who lost custody of his three children. So in order to defy the court order, and to be able to see his kids everyday, he becomes their nanny, Mrs. Doubtfire. The Aerosmith hit was fitting for the character who could be a cool Dad and the proper English nanny at the same time.
3. Which of the following artists did NOT record a song for a James Bond film?

Answer: Blondie

Although the group Blondie never recorded a James Bond theme, their biggest hit, "Call Me" (1980) was the main theme for the 1980 film "American Gigolo" starring Richard Gere. Lulu, who recorded the number one hit "To Sir With Love" (1967) from the movie, provided the theme for "The Man With The Golden Gun" (1974). Rita Coolidge recorded "All Time High" (1983) from the Roger Moore Bond film, "Octopussy". Shirley Bassey, of course, gained fame as the vocalist for three James Bond films: "Goldfinger" (1964), "Diamonds Are Forever" (1971) and "Moonraker" (1979).

Other noteworthy artists who have played the Bond scene include Paul McCartney and Wings, Duran Duran, Carly Simon and Sheena Easton.
4. What song is heard during the opening credits of the 1978 Cheech and Chong movie, "Up In Smoke"?

Answer: Low Rider

The 1975 hit single by the R&B group War has been used in several movies. It was used in the opening of this movie while Cheech Marin is admiring his set of wheels. The vehicle got the name from the fact that it has a modified suspension which causes it to sit low to the ground, thus the term "lowrider".

The other three songs were sung by Cheech throughout the film while driving in his car.
5. Which of the following film scores by legendary composer John Williams failed to win an Academy Award?

Answer: Superman the Movie

Williams provided the score for many of the most successful films of all time. Besides the four mentioned above, he was also responsible for the scores for the films "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind" (1978), "Fiddler On the Roof" (1971), "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" (1981) and the Harry Potter films.

The score for "Superman the Movie" (1978) lost the Oscar to Giorgio Maroder's "Midnight Express". The other three which were perhaps his best scores all won Oscars.
6. Which of the following songs was NOT heard during the Tom Hanks film, Forest Gump (1994)?

Answer: Imagine

"Forest Gump" (1994) included many songs from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s as Tom Hanks progresses through each era. Although John Lennon's "Imagine" (1971) was not part of the soundtrack, the lyrics were cleverly incorporated into the scene where Forest appears on the Dick Cavett Show following his return from China with the U.S. Ping Pong team.

The clip was an actual tape of the show in 1971 when Lennon was a guest. Forest is telling of his trip to China using several lines from Lennon's hit to describe it. "For What It's Worth" (1966) by Buffalo Springfield was heard while Forest was in Vietnam.

The Door's hit "Love Her Madly" (1971) was heard as Jenny is leaving her abusive boyfriend. "Sweet Home Alabama" (1974) by Lynyrd Skynyrd was heard when Jenny is teaching Forest to dance.
7. The brother of what famous celebrity recorded the song, "Far From Over" from the film "Staying Alive" (1983)?

Answer: Sylvester Stallone

"Staying Alive" (1983) was, of course, the sequel to the 1977 hit film, "Saturday Night Fever". The film was written and directed by superstar Sylvester Stallone. His brother Frank Stallone not only appeared in the film but recorded the hit song which hit the Top 10 on the Billboard charts. Frank gained earlier recognition as the leader of the street singers in the "Rocky" films. Sylvester and Swayze had cameo appearances in the film as well. Barry Gibbs and the Bee Gees did most of the music as they did in the original. Travolta reprised his role as super dancer Tony Manero.
8. In the 2003 film, "Bruce Almighty", what Barry White song does Jim Carrey turn on as he is preparing to romance his girlfriend, played by Jennifer Anniston?

Answer: Never Never Gonna Give You Up

Carrey played Bruce Nolan, a TV news reporter who fails to get the anchor job and so complains to God claiming he's not doing his job. God appears to him and challenges him to try and do a better job than he has. Endowed with God's powers he starts by abusing those powers for his own personal gain.

He turns on the Barry White hit with his waving finger and then proceeds to add stars in the sky and lasso the moon pulling it closer to impress his girlfriend.
9. Which of the following Walt Disney film songs became the theme song for the Disney studio?

Answer: When You Wish Upon A Star

The 1940 Academy Award winner from "Pinocchio" expressed not only the emotions of Walt Disney and his staff but also the magical force that made his movies so popular. The other three, just as popular, were either Oscar winners or nominees as well.
10. What female singer was part of two separate duos whose songs won both the Oscar for Best Song as well as the Grammy for Best Pop Performance Duo Or Group?

Answer: Jennifer Warnes

In 1982 Jennifer teamed up with legendary rock star Joe Cocker for the song, "Up Where We Belong" from the Richard Gere film, "An Officer And A Gentleman". Five years later in 1987 she repeated the feat, this time hooking up with Righteous Brothers member Bill Medley for "I've Had The Time Of My Life" from the Patrick Swayze film, "Dirty Dancing". Streisand, Midler and Dion all have won musical Oscars and Grammies as well but not as part of a duo.
