Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which hit song by Boys II Men was featured in the Eddie Murphy film "Boomerang"?

Answer: End of the Road

"End of the Road" was Boys II Men's most successful single - it stayed at the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for a record-breaking thirteen weeks in 1992, and won two Grammy Awards. The song can be found as a bonus track on the 1993 reissue of the band's "Cooleyhighharmony" album, and on the soundtrack for "Boomerang", which was certified triple platinum in 1995 and also launched Toni Braxton's career. "Water Runs Dry", "On Bended Knee" and "I'll Make Love To You" were all hits by Boys II Men from their album "II", which was released two years after "End of the Road".
2. Patty Smyth co-wrote and recorded the song "Look What Love Has Done" for which Arnold Schwarzenegger comedy?

Answer: Junior

The 1994 comedy "Junior" featured Emma Thompson, Danny DeVito, a very pregnant Arnold Schwarzenegger, and this Grammy, Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated theme song by Patty Smyth, best known for her duet "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough" with Don Henley. "Look What Love Has Done" was written by Carol Bayer-Sager, James Ingram, Patty Smyth and James Newton Howard, who also wrote the score for "Junior".

Unfortunately, the song cannot be found on the film's soundtrack release or on any of Patty Smyth's albums - it was only released as a single at the same time the film came out.
3. Janet Jackson made her motion picture debut in 1993 in "Poetic Justice", and also co-wrote and recorded a ballad for the film. What was the song called?

Answer: Again

"Again" topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for two weeks in 1993, and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song, but lost to Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of Philadelphia" from "Philadelphia". Oddly enough, the song cannot be found on the soundtrack release to "Poetic Justice", but can be found on Jackson's album "janet." which was also released in 1993. "Get It Up", "Well Alright" and "Waiting For You" were songs by TLC, Babyface and Tony! Toni! Tone! which can be found on the "Poetic Justice" album.
4. George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer starred in the romantic comedy "One Fine Day", which featured a ballad by Kenny Loggins. What was the name of the song?

Answer: For the First Time

"For the First Time" made it to number one on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart in 1997, and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song but lost out to Madonna's "You Must Love Me" from the movie "Evita". The song can be found on the soundtrack release to the film, as well as on Kenny Loggins' greatest hits compilation albums.

The other answers were all songs performed by Kenny Loggins that were heard in other movies. "Danger Zone" was used in "Top Gun"; "Meet Me Halfway" was featured in the Stallone movie "Over the Top"; and "Your Heart Will Lead You Home" was from "The Tigger Movie".
5. Which family movie from 1995 featured the Jordan Hill song "Remember Me This Way"?

Answer: Casper

"Remember Me This Way" was from "Casper", the live-action film about the friendly ghost made famous in cartoons and comic books. The song played when Casper was brought back to life as a boy briefly so that he could dance with Kat (Christina Ricci). It can be found on the "Casper" soundtrack, and on Jordan's self-titled 1996 album. "Toy Story" featured Randy Newman's song "You've Got A Friend In Me"; the song from "Free Willy 2" was Michael Jackson's "Childhood"; and "Babe" utilized the song "If I Had Words", which was performed by actor James Cromwell.
6. Deep Forest and Peter Gabriel collaborated on a song that was featured in the soundtrack for "Strange Days", the futuristic cyberpunk film from 1995 that starred Ralph Fiennes and Angela Bassett. What was the name of the song?

Answer: While the Earth Sleeps

"While the Earth Sleeps" played over the cast and credits at the end of "Strange Days", and incorporated parts of a Macedonian song called "Dali Znaes Mila Majko", as well as a Tsinandali choir song. It can be found on the soundtrack release for the film, and as a bonus track on the European edition of Deep Forest's "Boheme" album, which won the Grammy Award for Best World Music Album.

The other answers were songs performed by Peter Gabriel that were featured in other movies. "In Your Eyes" was used to memorable effect in "Say Anything"; "That'll Do" was the song from the movie sequel "Babe: Pig in the City" and "Down to Earth" was the song that played over the end sequence of "WALL-E".
7. Which romantic comedy that starred Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan featured the song "Anyone At All" by Carole King?

Answer: You've Got Mail

Written by Carole King and Carole Bayer-Sager, "Anyone At All" played over the end credits of 1998's "You've Got Mail", and can be found on the soundtrack release for the film. The song was nominated for the Satellite Award for Best Original Song, but lost out to Aerosmith's "I Don't Want To Miss a Thing" from "Armageddon". Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan made two other movies together in the 1990s, "Sleepless in Seattle" and "Joe Versus the Volcano", but neither of these movies featured a song by Carole King.

She did contribute the song "Now and Forever" to "A League of Their Own", which starred Tom Hanks but not Meg Ryan.
8. In "Phenomenon", John Travolta portrayed an ordinary man who was suddenly blessed with super-intelligence and telekinetic powers, and who tried to use his new abilities to help people. Which Eric Clapton song was featured on its soundtrack?

Answer: Change the World

Eric Clapton's recording of "Change the World" spent thirteen weeks at the top of the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart in 1996, and won Grammys for Best Male Pop Vocal performance, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. It can be found on the "Phenomenon" soundtrack, and on Clapton's greatest hits album.

The other answers were all songs performed by Eric Clapton that were used in other movies. "It's Probably Me" was recorded by Clapton and Sting for "Lethal Weapon 3"; "Tears in Heaven" was featured in "Rush"; and "Blue Eyes Blue" appeared in "Runaway Bride".
9. Which duet performed by Donna Lewis and Richard Marx played over the end credits of the animated film "Anastasia"?

Answer: At the Beginning

"At the Beginning" was a hit for Donna Lewis and Richard Marx on the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts in 1997. It was composed by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, who wrote all of the songs heard in the movie, including "Journey to the Past", "Once Upon a December" and "A Rumor in St. Petersburg". All of these songs can be found on the soundtrack release for "Anastasia", which was certified gold in 1997.
10. R. Kelly's hit "I Believe I Can Fly" has been used in many movies, but which movie was it written for originally?

Answer: Space Jam

"Space Jam" combined live-action and animation to depict Michael Jordan playing basketball with Bugs Bunny and a host of other Looney Tunes characters. Jordan had asked Kelly to compose a song for the film's soundtrack, and the result was "I Believe I Can Fly".

The song reached number one on the UK charts, peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in 1996, and won three Grammy Awards for Kelly. It can be found on the "Space Jam" soundtrack, which was certified platinum six times over in 2001. Kelly also wrote and performed songs for "Batman & Robin" ("Gotham City"), Samuel L. Jackson's update of "Shaft" ("Bad Man" and "Up and Outta Here") and Will Smith's movie "Ali" ("Hold On" and "The World's Greatest").
