quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Bob Dylan's New Orleans Rag" contains the lines: "Man, you're better off / In your misery / Than to tackle that lady / At one-oh-_____." Fill in the blank.

Answer: three

This is one of Dylan's earlier songs. It was recorded during the sessions for the album "The Times They Are A-Changin'" and it was also performed in New York at Town Hall on April 12, 1963.
2. How many roads must a man walk down according to a Dylan song?

Answer: the answer is blowin' in the wind

Why did I put 42 as an option? In Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," a computer churns out the answer to the Universe: 42. But then the characters must figure out just what this means, so they say it is the answer to the question, "How many roads must a man walk down?"
3. The blue-eyed son has walked and crawled on how many crooked highways and been out in front of how many dead oceans?

Answer: six and a dozen

This song, "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall," was loosely based on an old Scottish ballad called "Lord Randal." Yes, a dozen does equal twelve, but the word Dylan uses is "a dozen." Note the alliteration with "dead."
4. "Obviously ___ Believers." Complete the song title.

Answer: five

From Dylan's 1966 album "Blonde on Blonde."
5. Don't think how many times, it's alright?

Answer: twice

"Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" can be found on Dylan's second album, "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan," which follows the album "Bob Dylan."
6. Talkin' World War ____ Blues

Answer: III

This song was also released on the 1963 "Freewhelin'." In it, Dylan dreams he is walking into World War Three.
7. In "Walls of Red Wing," what are the ages of the singer's inmates?

Answer: 12-17

"Oh, the age of the inmates / I remember quite freely: / No younger than twelve, / No older 'n seventeen." Red Wing is located in Southern Minnesota, and the town houses a juvenile detention center.
8. How many curses does Old Reilly's daughter place on "the judge so cruel"?

Answer: seven

The Song is called "Seven Curses" and the curses, like the gifts in the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas, increase in numeric order: "one doctor will not save him," "two healers will not heal him," "three eyes will not see him," etc.
9. How many breezes are blowing around the cabin door in "Ballad of Hollis Brown?"

Answer: seven

"There's seven breezes a-blowin' / All around the cabin door." There are also seven shots that ring out and seven people dead.
10. "I Shall Be Free No. ___" begins "I'm just average, common too / I'm just like him, the same as you."

Answer: 10

This comes from "Another Side of Bob Dylan."
11. Another name for the song "No Limit" contains this number.

Answer: Zero

The song is best known as "Love Minus Zero" and appears on Dylan's "Bringing It All Back Home."
12. In what dream was Bob Dylan riding on the Mayflower?

Answer: His 115th

"Bob Dylans' 115th Dream" is a rambling adventure story that begins on the Mayflower (with Captain Arab, not Ahab, mind you) and contains Dylan's claim that "for the Pope of Eruke" he was employed, among other humourous non-sensical items.
13. "Love is Just a ____-Letter Word"

Answer: four

Joan Baez does a fabulous cover of this song on her album "Any Day Now."
14. "From a Buick ___"

Answer: six

This song occurs on an album with yet another number in its title: "Highway 61." Dylan loves using numbers!
15. Fill in the missing numbers from the song "Highway 61": "Now the ___ daughter on the ___ night / Told the ___ father that things weren't right."

Answer: 5th, 12th, 1st

There are seven different numbers mentioned in "Highway 61."
