Answer: Paramore

Paramore are a Christian pop-punk band from Franklin, Tennessee. After doing some early gigs around Nashville, they gigged in Florida in front of the Fueled by Ramen founder, John Janick, who immediately signed them to his label. As of November 2008, they have released two albums called 'All We Know is Falling' and 'Riot!' and have scored hits with 'Pressure','Emergency' and 'All We Know' from their first album and 'Crushcrushcrush', 'Hallelujah', 'That's What You Get' and 'Misery Business' from 'Riot!'.

Their members are Hayley Williams (vocals), Josh Farro (lead guitar), Zac Farro (drums) and Jeremy Davis (bass).

New Found Glory are one of the best known pop-punk bands, and come from Coral Springs, Florida, USA. They have been in existence since 1997 and have released several albums including 2007's 'Coming Home', 2002's 'Sticks and Stones' and two cover albums called 'From the Screen to Your Stereo' which have included songs such as 'Kiss Me' by Sixpence None the Richer, the Goo Goo Dolls' 'Iris' and 'The King of Wishful Thinking' by Go West, which included vocals from Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump.

Answer: Simple Plan

Simple Plan are a popular Canadian band from Montreal who released their self-titled third album in 2008 which included the songs "When I'm Gone" and "Your Love is a Lie". Their members are Pierre Bouvier (Vocals), Jeff Stinco (Lead Guitar), David Desrosiers (Bass), Sebastian Lefebvre (Guitars) and Chuck Comeau (drums).

In October 2008, SP released the single 'Save You', pledging that they would donate all the proceeds from the itunes downloads of the song to cancer charities. The song was written about Pierre's brother, Jay, who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at the age of 28.

Answer: All American Rejects

The All American Rejects rose to international prominence with their second album, 'Move Along' after success with the tracks 'Swing, Swing' and 'The Last Song' earnt them a place on the Interscope Records' roster.

Their third album, When the World Comes Down, was released on 16th December 2008 and their first single from the album was 'Gives You Hell'.

AAR are a four-piece band - Nick Wheeler (lead guitar), Tyson Ritter (vocals/bass), Mike Kennerty (guitar) and Chris Gaylor (drums).

Answer: Good Charlotte

Good Charlotte are made up of the Madden brothers originally from Waldorf, Maryland and two of their childhood friends Paul Thomas (bass) and Aaron Escolopio (drums). Escolopio left the band early on and the band have not had a permanent drummer since, recording and touring with several temps. Billy Martin was also added as a guitar early on and still plays with the band.

Joel and Benji Madden are identical twins, and neither had sung nor played an instrument in their lives until they saw the Beastie Boys live in 1995 which inspired them to start a band. Good Charlotte was formed only a year later. They did not make a significant breakthrough until 2002 with their album "The Young and the Hopeless", which featured their signature tune, "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous".

Joel Madden, having previously dated Hilary Duff, had a child with socialite Nicole Richie called Harlow (a girl!) in January 2008.

Fall Out Boy are named after Radioactive Man's sidekick from the popular cartoon series "The Simpsons" and have gained growing success in recent years with No 1 songs such as 'Dance, Dance', 'Sugar, We're Going Down' and 'This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race'.

They are also known for their long and interesting song titles, for example 'It's Not a Side Effect of the Cocaine, I Am Thinking It Must Be Love', 'I'm Like a Lawyer In That I'm Always Trying to Get You Off' and 'Champagne for My Real Friends, Real Pain for My Sham Friends'.

Answer: Yellowcard

Yellowcard's unique selling point is that they have a classically trained violinist among their lineup in the form of Sean Mackin. They made the brave move of moving as a band from Florida to Southern California in order to seek their fortune and try and make it in the rock scene. This move is commemorated in the song "Back Home" and was exactly what the band needed to kickstart their musical career.

By December 2008, they had sold over 3 million albums in total, their most successful being their first major studio album "Ocean Avenue", which was released in 2003.

The band are also famed for their flamboyant and hugely talented drummer, Longineu Parsons III, who sports long black dreadlocks and regularly performs epic drum solos in the band's gigs.

Arizona's Jimmy Eat World were formed as long ago as 1993 and had released 9 studio albums by the end of 2016. Perhaps their biggest album was 2001's Bleed American which featured hits such as The Middle and Sweetness which had headbangers singing along and air drumming for their lives.

Answer: Green Day

Perhaps the standard bearers for pop punk along with Blink 182, Green Day made the leap to the mainstream with 2004's American Idiot but had produced vintage hits like Minority, Basket Case and perhaps the most learned acoustic guitar riff of all time in Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) before that. An energetic outfit, they have cooled off in the last decade having enjoyed the heady days of the early Noughties at the top of their game.

The more electronic tones of Hellogoodbye added variation in the pop punk arena. Occasional ukelele on their tracks also brought something different to the genre and helped make geek rock cool. Their album Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! included their signature hit Here (In Your Arms).

Answer: Boys Like Girls

Boston's Boys Like Girls co-headlined a 2008 tour with Good Charlotte. While their guitar lines are more rocky, their lyrics and high tenor melodies blunt their hard edge which enabled them to include a song featuring Taylor Swift in their 2009 album Love Drunk.

Answer: Panic at the Disco

The high octane vocals of Brandon Urie play well in front of the electronic pop-punk of their backing band. Panic! At the disco were one of the biggest bands of the genre and their 2005 album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out was a must have for pop-punk emo fans of the time. They're continuing on and released the popular single Hallelujah in 2016.

Pennsylvanian rockers The Starting Line were founded in 1999 and famously released punk goes acoustic tracks including a great version of Best of Me. Like the genre, they rather fizzled out by the mid-noughties but did carry out a 10 year anniversary tour of their signature album Say It Like You Mean It in 2012.

Another band forced to change their name to the rather clunky The Academy Is... the, Illinoian pop-punkers scored their biggest hit with the album Almost Here in 2005. Tunes like Attention and Down and Out hit the radio and they toured with heavyweights like Fall Out Boy who were heavily involved throughout their spell on the scene.

Answer: Bowling for Soup

The Texan comedy rockers were formed in 1994 by high school friends Jaret Reddick (lead vocals) and Chris Burney (guitar). They hit the big time with 2002's 'Girl all the bad guys want' which was amazingly nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 2003. They continue to tour and have a UK tour scheduled for early 2018.
