Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This sorely underrated guitarist played for one of the most successful bands of the 70s. They are still knocking out albums today. He has put out one solo record called "Victor". Who is he?

Answer: Alex Lifeson of Rush

"Victor" is a far departure from Rush's usual fare. It has a hard edged industrial sound. Lifeson joined Rush when he was 17.
2. Which of these guitarists never played for the Yardbirds?

Answer: Mick Ronson

Mick Ronson played with the Spiders From Mars backing David Bowie. Led Zeppelin's original name was the New Yardbirds.
3. Jimi Hendrix produced an album for an Irish band.

Answer: True

In 1968 Hendrix produced a self-titled album for the little known (and deservedly so) Irish rock band Eire Apparent.
4. Who was the guitarist for the 60s band "The Amboy Dukes"?

Answer: Ted Nugent

The Motor City Madman was an original member before leaving for solo success. Their big hit was "Journey To The Center of Your Mind".
5. What famous guitarist is known for his outlandish guitars and long association with Hamer guitars?

Answer: Rick Nielson

Nielson of Cheap Trick owns hundreds of guitars including many specially made Hamer models including "Uncle Dick" which was made to look like him.
6. Which three guitarists have worked with David Bowie?

Answer: Stevie Ray Vaughn/Peter Frampton/Mick Ronson

Ronson was an original member of the Spiders From Mars. SRV played on "Let's Dance". Frampton recorded and toured with Bowie in the late 80s. NOTE: Frampton and Bowie actually went to school together and used to jam when they were teenagers.
7. Eddie Van Halen was once in a band called Mammoth.

Answer: True

Van Halen was orginally called Mammoth until David Lee Roth joined. When they were first "discovered" by Gene Simmons of Kiss he wanted to call them Daddy Longlegs.
8. Duane Allman played with James Brown.

Answer: False

Allman played with quite a few 60s blues giants (including Wilson Pickett) but never James Brown.
9. Here's a tough one. What guitarist (uncredited) played on Nicolette Larson's "Lotta Love"?

Answer: Eddie Van Halen

Nicolette and Eddie were dating (pre Valerie Bertanelli) at the time. Neil Young wrote the song.
10. Les Paul had his right arm permanently set so that he could play guitar after a serious car accident.

Answer: True

Paul almost lost his arm in the accident and was told he would never play again. He had the cast put on in the position he used while playing and it healed that way.
