Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "He says his name is William, but I'm sure he's Bill or Billy or Mac or Buddy."

Answer: All I Wanna Do

The third single from Crow's debut album, "Tuesday Night Music Club", "All I Wanna Do" was the hit that put the singer-songwriter on the alternative/contemporary music map in the early-to-mid-1990s, helping kickstart a trend of female guitarists that persisted until girl groups and solo pop artists took over the radio. "All I Wanna Do" won two Grammy Awards and was nominated for three; it hit number one on two Billboard Charts, peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, and appeared on four others in the U.S. alone.

The track is one of the more upbeat early numbers from Crow whose more solemn hits would become the norm until a few years later.
2. "I don't have digital, I don't have diddly squat."

Answer: Soak Up the Sun

A strikingly upbeat track for Crow coming off her fourth album, "C'mon, C'mon", "Soak Up the Sun" was released by Crow as the lead single for the record as she felt that radio needed more upbeat tracks following 9/11. The feel-good track came alongside a music video filmed in Oahu featuring Crow basking in sunlight, surfing waves, and relaxing in an RV.

The song topped three different Billboard Charts in the U.S. and appeared on three others. It was, by far, the best performing track of the album.
3. "When it comes to being lucky, he's cursed."

Answer: The First Cut is the Deepest

A cover of Cat Stevens' 1967 track, Crow's version is far from the first time "The First Cut is the Deepest" hit the charts. Nonetheless, her take on the song, appearing on her "The Very Best of Sheryl Crow" album, was a major hit for the singer upon releasing in 2003, more than a decade after she started her recording career. Hitting number one on three different Billboard charts (appearing on six total), it was the number two Adult Contemporary track in the U.S. in 2004 and went gold.
4. "Put on a poncho, played for mosquitoes."

Answer: If It Makes You Happy

Sheryl Crow's second album allowed the songwriter to provide a rawer emotion. "If It Makes You Happy" was the first single to appear on her self-titled record. Winning the Best Female Rock Vocal Performance Grammy, the track appeared on six different Billboard charts in the U.S., topping the US Adult Alternative Songs Chart.

It would be followed by a massive tonal shift with the proceeding single, "Everyday Is a Winding Road", which appeared on radios only two months later.
5. "I called you last night in the hotel."

Answer: Picture

Although this track is one attributed to Kid Rock (appearing on his fifth album, "Cocky", in 2002), it was written by and features the duet vocal stylings of Crow. The song became Kid Rock's top-charting song to date, hitting number four on the Billboard Hot 100 (and number two on the Adult Top 40).

It was also a boon to Sheryl Crow, being her top-charting single save for her breakout hit, "All I Wanna Do" (this hit number four, that hit number two).
6. "He's got a daughter he calls Easter."

Answer: Everyday is a Winding Road

The second single from Sheryl's second album (the eponymous "Sheryl Crow"), "Everyday is a Winding Road" was an uptempo, radio-friendly hit that persisted through the mid-1990s. Peaking at number eleven on the Billboard Hot 100, it also showed on six other Billboard Charts and hit number one in Canada.

The track was a big deal, acting as another staple in Crow's growing catalogue for tours and 'Lilith Fair' appearances. Though nominated for the Grammy for Record of the Year for this song, the 1998 award went to fellow 'Lilith Fair' performer Shawn Colvin instead.
7. "I have a face I cannot show, I make the rules up as I go."

Answer: Strong Enough

Crow's fourth single (from the her "Tuesday Night Music Club" album), "Strong Enough" couldn't have been more of a polar opposite from "All I Wanna Do". A down-tempo acoustic track, it became a fan favourite and a staple of her live shows, being performed alongside the Dixie Chicks in Crow's 1999 live album release. "Strong Enough" peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 but reached number one on the Canada Top Singles chart.

It would keep the ball rolling for Crow's debut; she would release two more singles from the album before her self-titled sophomore release in 1996.
8. "Did you know when you go it's the perfect ending."

Answer: My Favorite Mistake

Crow's third album, "The Globe Sessions" (recorded at the Globe Studio in Los Angeles) led with this first single in 1998. Topping the Billboard Adult Alternative Songs and reaching number twenty on the Billboard Hot 100, "My Favorite Mistake" is believed to be about Sheryl's break-up with musician Eric Clapton. Though she never confirmed that this was the truth, she did state in later interviews that it was her favourite single to release.

It led "The Globe Sessions" to be nominated for three Grammy Awards, winning two.
9. "Until the day, until the world falls away."

Answer: Tomorrow Never Dies

Sheryl Crow's major entry in the movie soundtrack canon, "Tomorrow Never Dies" was the title track for the second Pierce Brosnan James Bond movie; Crow wrote and performed the track, beating out several others to appear in the famous opening credits. Though the song was up for several awards, it had the misfortunate of being released in the same year as Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On", which swept all the relevant categories of the time.

The track failed to chart in the U.S. but it was respectfully popular internationally.
10. "Scully and Angel on the kitchen floor, and I'm calling buddy on the ouija board."

Answer: A Change Would Do You Good

Another classic from Sheryl Crow's second album, "A Change Would Do You Good" hit number one on the Billboard Adult Alternative Songs Chart in the U.S., also appearing on the charts in Canada, Australia, and Scotland. It would be the penultimate single from the disc.

Interestingly, the song was created by pulling lyrics from a hat, intentionally structured to be more about feel over message. Notably, one version of the song's music video was created by surreal director Michel Gondry, who brought his characteristic do-it-yourself approach to cinematography to the forefront; the video features Crow playing a "Bewitched"-like genie.
