Stevie was actually born Steveland Hardaway Judkins.His mother re-married and he took the name Steveland Morris.

Stevie was not born blind, contrary to belief, but was a premature baby that was given to much oxygen in his incubator which is believed to cause Retinopathy of Prematurity(blindness).
