Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'C'mon honey, let's go make some noise'

Answer: The Bangles

'Manic Monday' was a Number Two Billboard hit for The Bangles in early 1986. The song was written by Prince under the pseudonym "Christopher". The song features Susanna Hoffs lamenting Monday's arrival, ending her weekend. As she awakens from a romantic dream:

"He tells me in his bedroom voice
C'mon honey, let's go make some noise
Time it goes so fast
When you're having fun"
2. 'I awake and look around me, at four grey walls that surround me'

Answer: Tom Jones

'Green, Green Grass of Home' was a 1965 Country hit for Porter Wagoner. In 1967 Tom Jones' recording reached Number One in Britain and several other European countries. It peaked at Number 11 in the US. The song's story tells of a man returning to his childhood home, meeting friends and parents but then awakening to the realization that it was a dream and he's to be executed that day:

"Then I awake and look around me
At four grey walls that surround me
And I realize, yes, I was only dreaming"
3. 'But when I come back boy, I'm coming straight outta Compton'

Answer: N.W.A.

In 1988 N.W.A. released 'Straight Outta Compton' as the first single from their debut album of the same name. Both the group and the song were among the early examples of Gangsta Rap. Members Ice Cube (who was raised in South Central LA, not Compton), MC Ren and Easy E each rap a verse while a fourth member, Dr. Dre, introduces the song:

"You are now about to witness the strength of street knowledge
Straight outta Compton"
4. 'You're my reason for laughin', for cryin', for livin', and for dyin''

Answer: The Righteous Brothers

Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil wrote '(You're My) Soul And Inspiration' for the Righteous Brothers. It reached Number One on the Billboard Chart and was the Number Three song for 1966. Arranged by Jack Nitzsche and produced by Righteous Brother Bill Medley, 'Soul and Inspiration' was the duo's last top ten hit until 1974.
5. 'You cannot petition the lord with prayer!'

Answer: The Doors

'The Soft Parade' is the title track of The Doors' 1969 album. It opens with Jim Morrison delivering an introduction filled with religious fervor:

"When I was back there in seminary school
There was a person there
Who put forth the proposition
That you can petition the Lord with prayer"
6. 'I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine'

Answer: Murray Head

'One Night in Bangkok' was a 1984 song from the album and musical 'Chess' written by Tim Rice and by former members of ABBA Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. Murray Head raps the verses while another singer sings the chorus. 'Bangkok' reached Number Three in the US and Number 12 in Britain.
7. 'It's like barf me out. Gag me with a spoon!'

Answer: Moon Zappa

1982's 'Valley Girl' was Frank Zappa's only Top 40 US single, peaking at Number 32. It reached Number 12 in Canada. Zappa's daughter, Moon, then aged 14, provided the spoken lyrics and recreated conversations she'd heard among San Fernando Valley friends and schoolmates which her father used in the song:

"I do not talk funny
I am sure
What's'a matter with the way I talk?
I am a val, I know
But I live in, like
In a really good part of Encino"
8. 'Alright boys, this is her favorite song, you know that, right? So if we play it good and loud she might get up and dance again'

Answer: Trace Adkins

Adkins' 2005 hit 'Honky Tonk Badonkadonk' tells the tale of a group of good old boys in a bar watching a young lady dancing while keeping an eye on her shapely rear end or 'badonkadonk'. The song reached Number Two on the Billboard Country chart and peaked at 30 on the Hot Hundred, making it Atkins' first pop crossover hit.
9. 'Good heavens Miss Sakamoto, you're beautiful'

Answer: Thomas Dolby

'She Blinded Me With Science' was a 1982 one-hit wonder by British singer Thomas Dolby. Reaching Number Five in the US and Number One in Canada. In the UK, though, the song barely reached the Top 50. The song's quirky production features frequent spoken interjections by English nutritional scientist Magnus Pyke including complimenting Miss Sakamoto's beauty.
10. 'You know, don't you remember? Well, after loving me, she said she couldn't love another'

Answer: Michael Jackson

Another 1982 hit, 'The Girl Is Mine' peaked at Number Two in the US and Number Eight in the UK. A duet by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney, the song was the first single released from Jackson's 'Thriller' album. Despite chart success the song wasn't well received by critics and has been called the weakest song on 'Thriller'.

Leading into the vocal fade, Jackson and McCartney argue over the young lady's intentions:

"I've heard it all before, Michael
She told me that I'm her forever lover, you know, don't you remember?"

"Well, after loving me, she said she couldn't love another."

"Is that what she said?"

"Yes, she said it, you keep dreaming."
