Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We're all familiar with Carl and of course Pete, but who were the other two original members of The Libertines?

Answer: Gary and John

John Hassall, bassist for The Libertines is now also trying his hand at lead vocals with his new band 'Yeti' Whereas, Gary Powell is drumming with 'Dirty Pretty Things' a band which also features ex Libertines bandmate Carl Barat.
2. The Libertines amazing debut album was called?

Answer: Up The Bracket

Produced by ex Clash guitarist, Mick Jones, this critically acclaimed debut is without a doubt one of the best British albums of all time.
3. Some of my favourite Libertines lyrics are 'If you've lost your faith in love and music the end won't be long' which song features these words?

Answer: The Good Old Days

Those terrible tabloids choose to concentrate on Pete's destructive drug addiction. However, all true Libertines fans recognise his unique poetic prowess. Pete was accepted at Oxford University to study English Literature and is a published poet.
4. What are the missing words in these 'What a Waster' lyrics 'She writes down all her dreams/reads like The Book of Revelations, or the Beano, or the ---.

Answer: Unabridged Ulysses

Once again Pete Doherty's exceptional poetic ability is represented in these lyrics. His talent won him the opportunity to work with The British Council in Russia, aged just 16. His work can be found in the underground publications 'Rising Poets' and 'Full Moon Empty Sports Bag' .
5. "Don't Look Back (Into The Sun)" may not be on either of the albums, yet, it has to be one of the best Libertines songs! But what criminal activity did the boys indulge in during the video?

Answer: Stole their own CDs from a music store

This great video features the boys having some fun in London wearing their iconic red military blazers and taking the 'Liberty' of sneaking a few of their singles from a music store in the process!
6. What are the missing word/words in these 'Death on The Stairs' lyrics? "From way far across the sea came an Eritrean maiden she had a ---- mind and eyes for me, half blinded in the war"

Answer: One Track

From 'Up The Bracket' this track demonstrates perfectly the fusion of The Libertines poetic lyrics with a pure guitar rock riot.
7. The video for what sadly prophetic Libertines track featured two young actors portraying Carl and Pete as children?

Answer: What Became of The Likely Lads

'Oh what became of the Likely Lads? What became of the dreams we had? Oh what became of forever? We'll never know!' This was the last Libertines single to be released, bitterly poignant for those who knew the almost brotherly devotion that Carl and Pete had shared and the unique musical and lyrical partnership they had created.
8. Which famous literary figure do those self obsessed ones want to be in 'Narcissist'?

Answer: Dorian Gray

This light hearted take on self-observers, comes from the Libertines self titled second/final album. Those who are professionally trendy in the glow of Clapham sun are living in a looking glass as the beauty of life goes by and they wouldn't mind being Dorian Gray just for a day. Each to their own and all that!
9. Can you choose the missing word in these 'Can't Stand Me Now' lyrics? "----- the boy kicked out at the world"

Answer: Cornered

The first single from the Libertines second/final album, Carl and Pete's fractured friendship for the world to hear. Tinged with sadness, anger and regret this is one that many of us who were fans from the beginning usually site as our least favourite track.
10. The Libertines, best British band of the decade, parted company not long after the release of their self titled second album. But when was their last pre-breakup offering released in the UK?

Answer: August 2004

A miracle perhaps, that this album was even completed, yet the band held it together just long enough. Rough around the edges perhaps, not as amazing as its predecessor, yet if The Libertines could create a record this good even in the state of turmoil they were experiencing at the time, the assumption has to be made that it was only a matter of time before 'Up the Bracket' was equaled or bettered.
