Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the first song off of the Avenged Sevenfold's self-titled album recorded in the studio?

Answer: Critical Acclaim

M. Shadows (lead singer) knew how "Critical Acclaim" was going to turn out from the start. The Rev (drummer) sang the choruses to the song.
2. The Rev wrote the guitar riffs to "Almost Easy," and handed them to Synyster Gates (lead guitar) and Gates loved the riffs.

Answer: False

Synyster Gates actually refused to play it, as mentioned by M. Shadows. Another note: The Rev wrote the song "Almost Easy." The song eventually became a single. The song was originally going to be used on the "Transformers" movie soundtrack but it wasn't, for unexplained reasons, as said by Zacky Vengeance (rhythm guitar). He said, "It transformed into not being in the movie."
3. Which guitar solo, according to Synyster Gates, was and is the hardest solo to play off the self-titled album?

Answer: Scream

"And of course, the solo is the hardest solo to play. It's all picked. I don't know how I'm going to play it live, but we'll figure it out," said Synyster Gates. Funny note: As he was saying this, Zacky Vengeance snuck up behind Gates and made body gestures behind him.
4. "Afterlife" was written by Synyster Gates.

Answer: False

"Afterlife" was actually written by The Rev. The song also became a single for the band.
5. M. Shadows wrote the guitar intro to "Gunslinger" and asked Synyster Gates how he liked it. Gates said he liked it but what was the exception?

Answer: Gates wanted to use an acoustic guitar to play the intro.

Shadows originally wrote the intro on Gates' guitar. Gates stepped in and said, "I like it, but I want to use an acoustic guitar."
6. What was "Unbound (The Wild Ride)" originally titled?

Answer: Disneyland Acid Trip

This song reminded the band about a flying carpet ride, as mentioned by M. Shadows.
7. What band, according to Shadows, inspired him to use percussion instruments to the intro to "Brompton Cocktail"?

Answer: Tool

M. Shadows said, "I know Tool used percussion in one of their albums." This was another song written by The Rev.
8. The song "Fast Melodic" was changed to what song title?

Answer: Lost

The band said they wanted to make a song that was like "Second Heartbeat" (a song from their second album "Waking the Fallen"). Gates quoted people might hate him because of how he wrote and played the solo and the way it sounded too goofy.
9. How was the song "Dear God" the big departure from the album, according to Avenged Sevenfold?

Answer: It has more of a country sound to it.

"Dear God" is another single from Avenged Sevenfold. It has country elements in it, but it turned out to be a good song. It's like the second "Seize the Day" (off of "City of Evil").
10. Which song off the self-titled album gave Avenged Sevenfold problems in deciding how to approach it instrumentally?

Answer: A Little Piece of Heaven

The Rev wrote this song. The band liked the lyrics, but they didn't know how to come about the song instrumentally. The Rev recorded the piano and the drums the first day he gave the band the lyrics. The band still didn't know what to do with the song.

They were thinking about trashing the song and its lyrics but Shadows and The Rev denied it, and resumed making the song. The Rev sang the narration of the song. M. Shadows sang the verses. Zacky Vengeance sang the priest part. The song was another single from the band.
