Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which city, known for its jazz, were the Neville Brothers formed?

Answer: New Orleans

The Neville Brothers consist of four brothers: Aaron, Art, Charles, and Cyril. The group was founded in 1976 in New Orleans, Louisiana and is known for New Orleans jazz, among other genres. The four brothers got together to participate in the recording session for a Mardi Gras Indian group called the Wild Tchoupitoulas, which was led by their uncle, George Landry (also known as "Big Chief Jolly").

The Neville Brothers released their first self-titled album, "The Neville Brothers" in 1978.
2. What Neville Brothers' album takes its title from something Cain said after slaying his brother Abel in Genesis?

Answer: Brother's Keeper

"Now Cain said to his brother Abel, 'Let's go out to the field.' While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. Then the LORD said to Cain, 'Where is your brother Abel?' 'I don't know,' he replied. 'Am I my brother's keeper?'" (Genesis 4:8-9, NIV).

"Brother's Keeper" was the fifth studio album of the Neville Brothers and was released in 1990. It contained such songs as "Mystery Train," "Bird on a Wire," "Witness," and "Jah Love."

The Neville Brothers recorded the song on their 1989 album "Yellow Moon." Although it did not enter the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, it peaked at 26 on the Irish Singles Chart. The Neville Brothers' version of the song omits the verse about World War II:

"The Second World War
Came to an end
We forgave the Germans
And then we were friends
Though they murdered six million
In the ovens they fried
The Germans now, too
Have God on their side."
5. Which two Neville Brothers, who played keyboard and percussion for the band, were also members of the funk band The Meters?

They are perhaps best known for their funk classic "Cissy Strut."
Cyril Neville has also played with The Soul Machine, The Endangered Species Band, The Uptown Allstars, Tribe 13, Galactic, and Royal Southern Brotherhood. In 2013, he released a solo album, "Magic Honey," for which he won a Blues Music Award in the Contemporary Blues Album of the Year category.

You can't kill the fire that burns inside
Don't deny our flesh and blood
