The 1970s for me seemed to consist of three things; School, my favourite football team, and, like many other teenage girls, the Osmonds. It is for this reason that I decided to write a quiz in their honour.

George Virl Osmond was born in Star Valley on October 13th 1917. He met and married Olive May Davis, born May 4th 1925, on December 1st 1944 and together they raised nine children, eight boys and one girl.
2. The boys and their family grew up in Utah, USA and they wrote a song dedicated to their home state, called simply, 'Utah', but on which of their albums did it appear?

Answer: Crazy Horses

The album, 'Crazy Horses' was released in 1972, with the title song causing some controversy. In some countries they thought the title was drug related, whereas the brothers were making a statement against air pollution. This is supported by the picture on the album cover, with the boys being photographed in a scrap yard and the title, 'Crazy Horses', is formed by smoke billowing from factory chimneys.
3. On which crooner's TV show did the Osmond Brothers appear in the early days of their career?

Answer: Andy Williams

Spotted by Andy Williams' father whilst performing at Disneyland, the brothers became regulars on Andy's show from 1962-1969.
4. Which of the Osmond Brothers married first?

Answer: Merrill

Merrill married Mary Carlson on 17th September, 1973. The following year both Alan and Wayne married. Donny was next to tie the knot in 1978 and the last of the group, Jay, married in 1987.

Marie's dolls first appeared in 1991 on QVC. The first doll she premiered was named, 'Olive May', after her mother and as sales have increased her range has been sold in both retail stores and over the Internet.

'Love Me for a Reason', spent three weeks at number one in the UK charts in 1974. Twenty years later the song was covered by Boyzone and this time it reached only number two.

Answer: Hearing impairment

George Virl Osmond Jr., born 19th October, 1945 and Thomas Rulon Osmond, born 26th October, 1947 were diagnosed hearing impaired at an early age. Their disabilities were the inspiration for the 'Children's Miracle Network', founded in 1983.
9. Which of the brothers got his pilot's license at age 16, two years before he obtained his drivers license?

Wayne still has a passion for flying and all things mechanical and besides his singing and songwriting abilities he plays many musical instruments including flute, clarinet, saxophone, fiddle, banjo, piano, drums, guitar and bagpipes. He also has the nickname, 'Crazy Wayne', because of his love of jokes and he encourages fans to send in samples to him.

'The Osmond Family Theater' originally opened in 1992 and various members of the family have appeared there over the years. Following their '50 Years in Show Business' tour the brothers appear back at the theater in December 2008.

Marie and Jonathan did well to reach the final of 'Dancing with the Stars', and ended up finishing third. The winners were Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough. In week five of the show, following her samba performance, Marie fainted on stage and the show cut to a commercial break whilst she recovered.

'Osmond's World' was published from November 1973 until October 1977, 48 issues in all. There were also two hardback yearbooks in 1977 and 1978. Issue number one had a free disc inside, 'Hear the Osmonds Talking to You'.

Donny appeared in the 'Friends' episode, 'The One Where the Stripper Cries'. He is hosting his TV series, 'Pyramid', on which Matt Le Blanc's character, Joey Tribbiani, appears. Ross and Monica are very jealous of Joey, because, as children, they wanted to be Donny and Marie and proceed to give a rendition of 'I'm a Little Bit Country and I'm a Little Bit Rock and Roll'.

'Let Me In' featured on the brothers' 1973 album, 'The Plan', which was an ambitious work and included messages pertaining to their Mormon religious beliefs. The song reached number 36 in the USA charts and number two in the UK.
19. Merrill Osmond was the lead singer for the group, but who sang lead on the song, 'Crazy Horses'?

Answer: Jay

Jay, drummer for the group, sang lead vocals on 'Crazy Horses', with his harsher, Rock and Roll voice ideal for the message the song is trying to get over. Merrill, however, did sing the lines, 'What a show, there they go smoking up the sky, yeah. Crazy horses all got riders and they're you and I'.
