"The Last Time I Saw Paris" was introduced to the world in the film "Lady Be Good". This song of nostalgic remembrance was so popular that at least five other singers had released the song by the end of 1940. The music was written by Jerome Kern, and the lyrics were composed by Oscar Hammerstein II.

The song was not written for the movie, but went on to win the Oscar for "Best Original Song" at the 1941 Academy Awards. It is a song about lost love, a common theme among war songs.
3. In the title of the 1942 hit song by Ethel Merman, which city goes in the blank, "(We'll Be Singing Hallelujah) Marching Through ___"?

Answer: Berlin

"(We'll Be Singing Hallelujah) Marching Through Berlin" is a somewhat unusual World War II song. It was a song designed to arouse patriotism among soldiers and their families alike.
4. "At Mail Call Today" was a 1945 hit song by which country music singer?

Answer: Gene Autry

"At Mail Call Today" was a song about the infamous 'Dear John' letters, received by many heart-broken soldiers while serving in the war. It tells the sad story of a young soldier and his reaction to receiving one of these dreaded letters telling him that his fiancée/girlfriend/wife has left him.

Answer: We'll Meet Again

One of the most popular songs of the World War II era was "We'll Meet Again". Soldiers going off to war found assurance in the lyrics and did their families left behind. Sadly, this was not truth many, many times. In 1943, Vera Lynn went on to perform in the musical film of the same name. So popular was this song, that in 2005 Lynn was invited to perform the song at the 60th Anniversary of VE Day, in London.

It was said by many, that there was not a dry eye in the house.
6. In 1943, which of the following singers released the hit song "I'll Be Home for Christmas"?

Answer: Bing Crosby

"I'll Be Home for Christmas" was released by Bing Crosby in 1943, and can still be heard on some classic radio stations during the holiday season. 8. The 1941 hit, "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" helped propel which of the following sisters to stardom?

Answer: The Andrews Sisters

The Andrews Sisters were a trio that performed for decades, but are probably most noted for their World War II songs. 9. In the World War II song, "White Cliffs of Dover", what is said to be flying overhead?

Answer: Bluebirds

"White Cliffs of Dover", was a big hit for Vera Lynn. This lovely song echoed the homesickness felt by most soldiers in the war. It was thought to have been inspired by the air battles over this area. The yearning for the war to be over and everyone to go home can be heard in this sad yet hopeful song.

It should be noted that bluebirds are not native to the White Cliffs and have probably never been seen flying in the area.
10. Irving Berlin's wartime hit "This is the Army, Mr. Jones" shot to the top of the charts after it was included in the 1942 hit movie "Yankee Doodle Dandy".
