U2's debut album, "Boy", was released in 1980, reaching number 52 in the UK. "The Electric Co." takes its title from a controversial technique used in psychiatric hospitals called "electric convulsion therapy".
2. Stay (Faraway, So Close)

Answer: Zooropa

"Zooropa" was U2's eighth studio album, released in 1993, and it topped the charts in a number of countries, including the UK and USA. "Stay" was inspired by Frank Sinatra, and topped the singles chart in their home country of Ireland, whilst reaching number four in the UK.
3. Beautiful Day

Answer: All That You Can't Leave Behind

"All That You Can't Leave Behind" was released in 2000, the band's first studio album for three years. It topped the charts in many countries, including the UK. "Beautiful Day" was released as a single shortly before the album and also topped the British chart.
4. Gloria

Answer: October

"October" was the band's second album. Released in 1981, it reached number 11 in the UK. "Gloria" was released as a single, and included a chorus sung in Latin.
5. Sunday Bloody Sunday

U2's third album, "War", was released in 1983, and topped the UK chart, whilst giving them their USA breakthrough, where it made it to number 12. "Sunday Bloody Sunday", a song about the troubles in Northern Ireland, was never released as a single in the UK or USA, but is one of their best known songs, and was a regular part of their live sets well into the 21st century.
6. Pride (In the Name of Love)

"The Unforgettable Fire", released in 1984, topped the UK album chart and reached number 12 in the USA. "Pride", a tribute to Martin Luther King, was released as a single, and was their highest placed British release up until that time, reaching number three. The song became a staple of the band's live sets well into the 21st century.

Answer: Achtung Baby

Released in 1991, "Achtung Baby" was the band's seventh studio album. It topped the charts in numerous countries, including the UK and USA. No fewer than five tracks on the album were released as singles, including "One", which reached number seven in the UK and ten in the USA.

Answer: Rattle and Hum

Released in 1988, "Rattle and Hum" was a part studio/ part live album, and accompanied a rockumentary of the band. The album topped the charts in both the UK and USA. "Angel of Harlem" was released as a single, reaching number nine in the UK.
9. Vertigo

Answer: How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb

Released in 2004, "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" was U2's first album for four years, and it topped the charts in over 30 countries, including the UK and USA. "Vertigo" was the lead-off single from the album, and topped the UK chart. The band's tour to support the album was subsequently called the "Vertigo Tour".
10. In God's Country

Answer: The Joshua Tree

Released in 1987, "The Joshua Tree" was the album that made U2 worldwide superstars. It topped the charts in over 20 countries including the UK and USA, their first album to do so in the latter. "In God's Country" was released as a single only in North America, although it still managed to reach number 48 in the UK as an import.
