Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This 1970 album cover features cropped close-ups of Van Morrison's face, which sports a goatee.

Answer: Moondance

The reason for the cropping on the photo was to conceal a pimple on Van Morrison's forehead, according to photographer Elliot Landy. Interestingly enough, Van Morrison did not release the title song for this album, "Moondance," as a single until over seven years after the album's release.

At that time, "Moondance" reached number 92 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The song has appeared in film and television, on episodes of "The West Wing" and "Peep Show" and in the movies "An American Werewolf in London" and "August Rush."
2. On the cover of this fifth studio album, Van Morrison walks alongside his honey on a horse.

Answer: Tupelo Honey

"Tupelo Honey" was certified gold by the RIAA in 1977. The title song reached 47 on the U.S. Pop Singles chart and was released as a single with "Starting A New Life" on the B Side. Michael Maggid took the cover photo, which featured Morrison's wife of the time, Janet Planet, riding bareback in a rural setting.
3. Van, wearing a suit, sits on the grass between two Irish Wolfhounds on the cover of this 1974 album.

Answer: Veedon Fleece

Tom Collins snapped this album cover photo near a converted mansion on Dublin Bay called the Sutton House Hotel. The album charted at number 53 on the U.S. Billboard Pop Albums chart.
4. This debut album has a psychedelic swirl of brown vines with a photo of Van Morrison in the center.

Answer: Blowin' Your Mind

In "Van Morrison: No Surrender," Johnny Rogan quotes Van Morrison as saying "he almost threw up" when he saw the cover. Despite the cover's gaudy design, it gave birth to a highly successful single, "Brown Eyed Girl," which peaked at number ten on the U.S. Billboard Pop Singles chart.
5. Van Morrison dons white pants and holds a cigarette on the cover of this, his tenth studio album.

Answer: Wavelength

Norman Seeff, who has also taken photos for Joni Mitchell's album sleeves, was the photographer for this shot. "Wavelength" peaked at number 28 on the U.S. Billboard Pop Albums chart.
6. The cover of this album shows Van Morrison transitioning between 15 different poses.

Answer: A Period of Transition

The album photographer, Ken Mcgowan, shot Van Morrison in a series of introspective poses. Released in 1977, "A Period of Transition" was Van Morrison's ninth studio album. It peaked at number 43 on the U.S. Billboard Pop Albums chart.

Answer: St. Dominic's Preview

The shot was taken by Michael Maggid on the steps of Montgomery Chapel, which is nestled on the grounds of the San Francisco Theological Seminary in the city of San Anselmo, California. The album peaked at number 15 on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 and featured the singles "Jackie Wilson Said," "Redwood Tree," and "Gypsy."
10. The pretty cover of this 13th studio album has a cloud, stars, a crescent, and a prismatic rainbow.
