Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What do the songs 'Changing of the Guards', 'Where Are You Tonight (Journey Through Dark Heat)', and 'No Time to Think' have in common?

Answer: They appear on the same album: 'Street Legal'

'Street Legal' is one of Bob's most underrated albums. These songs, as well as the others on this album demonstrate Dylan's intricate rhymes and storylines.
2. What is the link between these Dylan songs: 'Like A Rolling Stone', 'Desolation Row', 'Tombstone Blues', and 'Visions of Johanna'?

Answer: Famous historical and literary figures are characters in these songs

'Like A Rolling Stone' shows Napoleon in rags.
'Desolation Row' has among many historical figures: Cain and Abel, T.S Eliot, Ezra Pound, Robin Hood, Romeo and Ophelia (from Shakespeare), The Phantom of the Opera and Cinderella.
'Tombstone Blues' has Beethoven among others.
'Vision of Johanna' mentions Mona Lisa.
3. 'Mr. Tambourine Man' and 'Rainy Day Women 12 & 35' have the following trait in common.

Answer: They have been labelled as "drug songs" by listeners and critics, but Dylan denies those claims

Dylan claims that Mr. Tambourine Man (despite lyrics suggesting a drug-induced "trip") was about Mardi Gras. He was in New Orleans during Mardi Gras when he saw a man in costume playing a giant tambourine which supposedly inspired the song.
4. The songs" 'The Times They Are A-Changin', 'Subterranean Homesick Blues', and 'Blowin' in the Wind' all had what in common?

Answer: Used by various groups/people to protest the social turmoil of the 1960s

There is a line in 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' that says : "you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows". A radical countercultural group in the 1960s named themselves "The Weathermen" after this lyric. Apparently when Dylan "sold out" by going electric and stopped writing "protest songs", this group changed their name.
5. 'Tweeter and the Monkey Man', 'Dirty World' and 'Congratulations' all have what in common?

Answer: They were all sung by Dylan when he was in the band The Travelling Wilburys

'Tweeter and the Monkey Man' has been rumored to be made into a movie.
6. 'Blowin' in the Wind', 'It Ain't Me Babe' and 'With God on Our Side' share which common element?

Answer: They are all songs that Dylan often sang in concert with Joan Baez

Joan Baez's song 'Diamonds and Rust' was supposedly written about Bob. Powerful lyrics-check it out.
7. Ok, this question isn't about songs, but albums. 'Self Portrait' and 'Planet Waves' have what in common?

Answer: Dylan painted the cover art

The picture of 'Self Portrait' is available to buy as a blanket (a very comfortable one might I add) on Bob's website.
8. The link between 'Only A Pawn in Their Game', 'Hurricane' and 'The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carrol' is what?

Answer: They are all "true stories" about racial discrimination

All such sad stories.
9. 'Wedding Song', 'Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands' and 'Sara' all share what?

Answer: They were all written for his ex-wife Sara, and they are the last songs on their respective albums

The album 'Blood on the Tracks' was written during/about their divorce. When Dylan was asked what he thinks about the album's excellent reviews he said, "I don't understand how people can enjoy that much pain".
10. 'I Shall Be Free' and 'Gotta Serve Somebody' have what in common?

Answer: Both songs contain Bob's name or nickname(s)

Two of Bob's great anti-war songs are 'Masters of War' and 'John Brown'.
