Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "If You Feel the Funk (Shake Your Rump)"
Answer: LaToya
LaToya Jackson had this minor hit, in 1980. "If You Feel the Funk (Shake Your Rump)" was from her self-titled debut album and peaked at Number 40 on the U.S. R&B Billboard chart. Surprisingly, LaToya recorded eleven albums from 1980-1996, with none ever making much of a dent on the U.S. Billboard charts.
The second oldest Jackson girl, LaToya Yvonne, was born on May 5, 1956, and went on to have middling success in "The Business". Although her brother Michael cornered the market on controversy, LaToya was most-likely a close second. Whether it was her posing for "Playboy" with a snake in the early 1990s or finding herself at odds with the family after accusing her father, Joe, of incest in her 1991 'tell-all' book, "LaToya: Growing Up in the Jackson Family", she was no stranger to the spotlight.
2. "Tito Time"
Answer: Tito
Ok, this entry for Tito was a gimme as there were no singles which featured him exclusively singing lead that I could find that made the U.S. R&B Billboard chart; however, in 2016, Tito released his first solo LP called, "Tito Time". It featured such artists as Jocelyn Brown, Betty Wright, Big Daddy Kane, and his sons, TJ, Taj, and Taryll. The boys, who had formed their own group, 3T, in the early to mid-1990s, even enjoyed a Top 15 hit on the U.S. R&B Billboard in 1996, entitled, "Anything".
The third oldest child and second eldest boy, Toriano Adaryll, was born on October 15, 1953. A producer, songwriter, and singer, Tito, was a versatile artist as he wrote some of the Jackson Five's greatest hits such as "I Want You Back" and "I'll Be There".
3. "Don't Go"
Answer: Marlon
Marlon scored a Number Two hit on the U.S. Billboard R&B chart in September, 1987, entitled "Don't Go". It was released on his debut album, "Baby Tonight".
Born Marlon David on May 12, 1957, he was the fourth oldest boy and sang with his brothers until 1987 when he left to pursue a solo career.
4. "Reaction"
Answer: Rebbie
The oldest child of Joe and Katherine Jackson, Maureen Reillete ('Rebbie'), was born on May 29, 1950. Primarily a background singer during the 1970s and '80s for not just her brothers, but other acts like The Emotions, Rebbie would score her second hit on the U.S. R&B Billboard chart in August, 1986, with the single, "Reaction", the title track from her second album of the same name.
5. "Love You Honey"
Answer: Randy
Steven Randall Jackson was born on October 29, 1961, and was the youngest boy and second youngest child (Janet) in the family. He joined his brothers (minus Jermaine) on their 1976 album entitled, "Goin' Places".
After recovering from an automobile accident in 1980, in which he broke both legs, Randy would re-join his brothers (along with Jermaine) and get his opportunity to display his singing chops on the song, "One More Chance", which appeared on their 1984 album, "Victory".
Randy would remain with the group until 1989 when he struck out on his own and formed his own band, Randy and the Gypsies, but the venture failed to bring about the success he was hoping for, although the band did produce a Top 20 hit on the U.S. R&B Billboard chart in February, 1990, entitled, "Love You Honey".
6. "Heart Don't Lie"
Answer: LaToya
LaToya had a Top 30 hit with this song on the U.S. R&B Billboard chart in May, 1984.
7. "Stay"
Answer: Jackie
In 1989, Jackie Jackson broke onto the U.S. R&B Billboard Top 40 chart at Number 39 with the song, "Stay", which was from his second solo album called, "Be the One".
Sigmund Esco ("Jackie") was born on May 4, 1951, and was the second oldest child (after Rebbie) and oldest boy in the family. In 1973, Jackie actually recorded his first solo album on the Motown label, which was self-titled, but there were no hits on it to be found. He also released a third album, "Big City After Dark", in 2007, but again, no hits were produced from it.
8. "Body"
Answer: Marlon
Marlon cracked the U.S. Billboard R&B chart on the family's 1984 album, "Victory", when he sang lead on the song, "Body". It just barely slipped into the Top 40 at Number 39.
9. "Plaything"
Answer: Rebbie
Rebbie's 1988 third LP release, "R U Tuff Enuff", produced this U.S. R&B Billboard Top Ten smash, which peaked at Number Eight.
10. "Centipede"
Answer: Rebbie
Rebbie's first solo album, "Centipede", was produced by Michael and was also the name of the single. It climbed all the way to Number Four in the latter part of 1984 and became Rebbie's biggest hit.
