Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Are you under the impression This isn't your life Do you dabble in depression Is someone twisting a knife in your back Are you being attacked Oh, this is a fact That you need to know Oh, oh, oh, oh" Which song is this lyric from?

Answer: Wilco (The Song)

"Wilco (The Song)" came out of the album "Wilco (The Album)". Wilco's self-titled song was a sure success. For their tour for this album, they even created a pamphlet of sorts, showing everywhere they will go, and some other miscellany including an interview of Jeff Tweedy, the lead singer of Wilco, by his two sons.

This song premiered on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report", where Stephen Colbert at the end of the song said, "Nation, that is a number one hit!".
2. "I remember my mother's Sister's husband's brother Working in the goldmine full-time Filling in for sunshine Filing into tight lines Of ordinary beehives The door screams I hate you Hate you hanging around my blue jeans" Only two questions will have you fill in a blank; this is one. What song contains these words?

Answer: You Are My Face

"You Are My Face" comes off their album, "Sky Blue Sky". Other songs in this album are "Impossible Germany" and "Side with the Seeds".
3. "I know you're just a mama's boy You're positively unemployed So misunderstood So misunderstood" The second one with a fill in the blank, so what song is this?

Answer: Misunderstood

Wilco's second album, "Being There", held this song. More than a decade later, it is still a favorite with fans.
4. "Shiny, shiny pants and bleach-blond hair A double kick drum by the river in the summer She fell in love with the drummer Another and another She fell in love" Which song of theirs has these lyrics?

Answer: Heavy Metal Drummer

One of their most famous songs is "Heavy Metal Drummer". Any time you see Wilco in concert, you will hear "Heavy Metal Drummer". The members of Wilco are Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt, Nels Cline, Glenn Kotche, Pat Sansone, and Mikael Jorgensen.
5. "Everything alive must die Every building built to the sky will fall Don't try to tell me my Everlasting love is a lie" What is the song?

Answer: Everlasting Everything

A song off of "Wilco (The Album)", and a great one at that. This song is very heartfelt. "You and I" and "Bull Black Nova" came off of the same album.
6. "A watch that ticks is wrapped around my wrist, oh no I'm a bomb regardless Oh, I'm a bomb regardless" What's the song?

Answer: Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway (again)

An upbeat, early hit of Wilco. Coming from "Summerteeth", their third album. "Summerteeth" holds the record for the most songs on a single disc made by Wilco, with 17 tracks.
7. Wilco's first album was "Being There".

Answer: False

Wilco's first album wasn't "Being There", rather "A.M." was their first. "Being There" was their second album. "Being There" had two discs labeled Disc 1 and Disc 2, naturally.
8. "You came to meet me out on the line You couldn't believe I was feeling fine When I really needed you, you were gone; So long" What early song is this?

Answer: Too Far Apart

"Too Far Apart" is on the album "A.M.". Also on that album: "Casino Queen", "Pick up the Change", and "Passenger Side". "Too Far Apart", along with most of the songs on "A.M.", has become largely unpopular and unknown to many newer Wilco fans.
9. "Let's forget about the tongue-tied lightning Let's undress just like cross-eyed strangers This is not a joke, so please stop smiling What was I thinking when I said it didn't hurt?" What Wilco song has those lyrics?

Answer: I am Trying to Break Your Heart

Unlike "Too Far Apart", "I am Trying to Break Your Heart" is one of Wilco's signature songs. Off of the 2002 album, "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot", "I am Trying to Break Your Heart" is a song you will hear in every concert. Also, "I am Trying to Break Your Heart" was the name of a documentary, made in 2002, directed by Sam Jones about the band.

It depicted the departure of the late Jay Bennett, who was a Wilco member, among other things. He sued Jeff Tweedy for breach of contract and died a month later.
10. "His goal in life was to be a nickel Riding alone, town after town, toll after toll A fixed bayonet through the great southwest to forget her" Which Wilco song has these lyrics?

Answer: Hummingbird

The first three lines of "Hummingbird" are in the question (they are repeated, though not in full, later in the song). Off of Disc 2 in the album "Kicking Television; Live in Chicago" (often referred to as just "Kicking Television"). This song is three minutes, nineteen seconds in the original version.
11. Wilco made a 15 minute song, with only three minutes of singing and instrumental playing, and the rest a monotonous ringing. All on purpose.

Answer: True

You might be asking what the song is called, if it even had a name. It is titled "Less Than You Think", and it is on their multiple Grammy-winning "A Ghost is Born".
12. "Oh, hold back Oh, don't invite me 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 Once in Germany someone said nein" Which song contains these particularly strange lyrics?

Answer: I'm a Wheel

A speedy song also on their album "A Ghost is Born". I like it a lot, but it really isn't as famous as some of the other songs they created.
13. "All my lies are only wishes I know I would die if I could come back new" What song has these lyrics?

Answer: Ashes of American Flags

I didn't give you much, but that is all you need for this song. "Ashes of American Flags" is also the title of a movie they made about themselves touring around the country. Made in 2009, this movie quickly became a quintessential part of any Wilco fan's collection. The song is on "Kicking Television; Live in Chicago".
14. "And if I could you know I would Just hold your hand and you'd understand" Which song of Wilco's are these words taken from?

Answer: I'm the Man who Loves You

The following words to this song are the answer to the question. One couldn't create a quiz on "Wilco Lyrics" without including "I'm the Man who Loves You". This song is loved by fans. Again, this is on "Kicking Television; Live in Chicago".
15. "If you feel like singing a song And you want other people to sing along You just sing what you feel Don't let anyone say it's wrong" What is the song?

Answer: What Light

A great song, off of "Sky Blue Sky". This album is their seventh, containing 12 songs. Before that, Wilco had a song on "The Spongebob Squarepants Movie" called "Just a Kid", and Jeff Tweedy's son Spencer is credited with writing the song along with his father.
16. Their song "I'm a Wheel" was on their album "A Ghost is Born".

Answer: True

"I'm a Wheel" was on "A Ghost is Born", their fifth album. "At Least That's What You Said", "Theologians", and "The Late Greats" were also on the Grammy-winning album.
17. "Look out, here I come again And I'm bringing my friends I said look out, here I come again And I'm bringing my friends" What song are these lyrics taken from?

Answer: Outtasite (Outta Mind)

An early song on "Being There". Along with "Being There", "A.M." and "Summer Teeth" were the only three albums that were made with Reprise Record Company. Up to "Wilco (The Album)", their record company has been Nonesuch Records.
18. "I tried to stay busy I do the dishes, I mow the lawn I try to keep myself occupied Even though I know you're not coming home." Which song goes with these lyrics?

Answer: Hate it Here

This is again one of my favorite songs by Wilco. "Hate it Here" was on "Sky Blue Sky", their only album made in 2007.
19. "Fundamental problem All need to face This is important But I know, you're not listening Oh, you're not listening" What song has those lyrics?

Answer: Impossible Germany

The first lines of "Impossible Germany" are:

"Impossible Germany, unlikely Japan"

This song is on "Sky Blue Sky".
20. "Tall buildings shake Voices escape, singing sad, sad songs Tuned to chords, strung down your cheeks Bitter melodies, turning your orbit around" Finally, what song contains these lyrics?

Answer: Jesus, etc.

The lines I put in the question are very famous, every concert crowd sings along with Wilco when this part comes, and it will come, because you can almost be certain "Jesus, etc." will be played. "Jesus, etc." is on "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot".
