4. The Austrian Empire grew out of the realms of what royal family?

Answer: the Habsburgs

From territories within and without the Holy Roman Empire (which included what are now Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia, Romania, Poland, and others) ruled by a Habsburg monarch, there arose the Habsburg Empire or the Danubian Monarchy, which was proclaimed the Austrian Empire 1804.

In Europe, it was second only to the Russian Empire in size. The Habsburgs are named for their castle in the Swiss Canton of Aargau. Once there was hardly a Roman Catholic throne in Europe that was not supplied by the House of Habsburg, including every formally elected Holy Roman Emperor between 1452 and 1740 and many rulers of Spain and the once formidable Austrian Empire.
