After reconciling with his brothers George IV had to deal with another problem: his wife. Technically, Princess Caroline of Brunswick was to all intents and purposes Queen Consort. Divorce was never on his mind so long as their only child Charlotte was alive.

He drafted a Bill of Pains and Penalties which was of course defeated. George also realized if he persisted in his cause for a divorce would make his own love life very public. He did succeed in barring Caroline from the coronation when she showed up to Westminster Abbey to be crowned, only to be met by closed doors.

During his time as Prince of Wales and as King, George IV had four known mistresses: Grace Elliot, Frances Countess of Jersey, the Marchioness of Hertford and the Marchioness of Conyngham.

Feeling ill she went to take the waters at a seaside town of Worthing and moved on to Weymouth after recovering. An equerry, the Hon. Charles Fitzroy, with whom she fell in love went with her. While visiting The Duke of Rutland Frederick Duke of York died at the age of 63 of dropsy and cardio vascular disease. Frederick and Frederica never had children and were unhappy being married to each other so she wasn't present at his death. Frederick was later buried at St. George's Chapel in 1827.

Following George III's death George Prince of Wales became George IV. Ernest Duke of Cumberland was fourth after The Duke of York, The Duke Clarence and Princess Victoria of Kent. This excludes Charlotte who died in childbirth, Edward Duke of Kent as he died six days before the King, Octavius and Alfred and Amelia who died young and childless.

Frederick Adolf Prince of Sweden proposed marriage to Augusta without the approval of The Swedish Royal House. The match never came to fruition because of the King's unwillingness to let the Princesses marry.

Princess Mary married her first cousin William Frederick Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh son of Prince William Henry brother of King George III. They never had children.

He earned the nickname of "The Purple Light of Love" and supposedly he and Sophia had a son named Thomas but they never married.
