Jessica Marie Lunsford was a nine year old that lived in Homosassa, Florida with her father Mark and her grandparents Archie and Ruth.

John Evander Couey was living in the Homosassa area and was on the sex offenders registry when the crime was committed. However he wasn't living at the registered premises.
4. Where was Jessica's kidnapper living?

Answer: In his half-sister's trailer

Couey was living in his half-sister's trailer at 6647 Snowbird Court. His half-sister was Dorothy Marie Dixon who was living with her boyfriend Matthew Oley Dittrich and her daughter and son-in-law, Madie Catherine Secord and Gene Allan Secord. Their residence was miles away from Couey's registered premises.
5. Did the people living with the kidnapper know where he was?

Answer: No

The residents didn't know where Couey was because he had recently flown out on a one way ticket to Savannah, Georgia under an assumed name. At the time of the murder and afterwards they had been taking drugs and drinking heavily so they had no recollection of where he was.
6. When Couey was captured, did he admit to killing Jessica?

Answer: Yes

Couey was arrested in Georgia because of marijuana possession. He was released but then was recaptured because a woman at his homeless shelter recognised him from the national news. They captured him and bought him to Florida to be questioned. Couey maintained his innocence until he took a polygraph test.

He broke down and admitted to the kidnapping and killing of Jessica Lunsford as well as an accurate description of where she could be found.
7. Where was Jessica buried?

Answer: In Couey's backyard

When Couey saw Jessica on the news, he put her in a plastic bag and buried her in a shallow grave in his garden. Prior to that he had been hiding her in his wardrobe with no toilet and very little food. Police inspected the house but didn't check the wardrobe where she was hidden.

Answer: The Jessica Lunsford Act was established

The Jessica Lunsford Act was established and signed into law by Governor Jeb Bush on May 2, 2005. The law took effect on September 1 2005. The act stated that the prison sentences were increased, electronic tracking was used on sex offenders on probation and more use of the sex offenders database by local police so that no sex offenders could slip through the law.
10. What was Couey sentenced to?

Answer: Death penalty

Couey took an IQ test which showed them that he was mentally handicapped but the judge ruled that his IQ was 8 points over the limit of mental retardation. The original sentence was the death penalty but it was lowered to life on account of his very low IQ. He died whilst in a cell of natural causes. He was sentenced in August 2007 and died in September 2009.
