1. Queen Victoria's grandson, Prince Arthur of Connaught, married Princess Alexandra, Duchess of Fife in 1913. How were they related?

Arthur's father was HRH (His Royal Highness) the Duke of Connaught, Queen Victoria's third son. Alexandra's mother HRH Princess Louise, Princess Royal and Duchess of Fife, was the daughter of the Queen's eldest son the Prince of Wales. As such, Arthur and Alexandra were second cousins. Alexandra's father, the Duke of Fife, had died in 1912. Queen Victoria had issued him with a special creation of the Fife dukedom which allowed it to pass to Alexandra in the absence of any male heirs.

In 1905, when he made Louise Princess Royal, Alexandra's grandfather had made her a princess with the title of 'Her Highness.

After her marriage, she was known as HRH Princess Arthur of Connaught. Arthur died of stomach cancer in 1938. Alexandra lived on until 1959, outliving the couple's only son, Alastair.
