Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Organized serial killers are usually which of these?

Answer: Intelligent

Most serial killers have above average IQ. There are two primary types of serial killer; organized and disorganized. Organized killers fit the stereotype of the intelligent, methodical killer. However, disorganized serial killers are frequently socially inept and of average or low intelligence. Thanks to haceldama for supplying this information.
2. Serial murder is defined by the FBI as:

Answer: Three or more separate events in three or more separate locations with an emotional cooling-off period between homicides

This fact is from the Crime Classification Manual, a ten-year project by the FBI's National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime (NCAVC).
3. Charles Whitman was mistakenly referred to as as a serial killer, but what type of killer was he really?

Answer: He cannot be classified

Charles Whitman killed his mother and wife before going to the tower in Texas for about 90 minutes and killing 14 people, injuring dozens more. Spree killing is multiple killings in a single event at one or more locations without a cooling off period between murders. It is not possible to determine whether there was a cooling off period between the domestic murders and the others.
4. The 'signature' aspect of a serial crime is:

Answer: Criminal conduct that goes beyond the actions necessary to perpetrate the crime

It's like the calling card, serial killers do it because they get emotional fulfillment from that aspect. An example would be post-mortem posing of the bodies.
5. Ed Kemper was known by which nickname?

Answer: Co-ed Killer

Kemper started his career as a killer by murdering his grandparents, at the age of 15. He later killed his mother, also. Most of his non-family victims were hitchhiking college students.
6. Of how many counts of murder was Ted Bundy convicted?

Answer: 3

He was only convicted of three murders. Bundy was convicted in Florida for three counts, the Chi Omega sorority murders (2), and the murder of Kimberly Leach. However, he confessed to 20-30 murders. No one knows how many it really was.
7. Richard Ramirez was also known as:

Answer: The Night Stalker

He was nicknamed the "Night Stalker" because many people thought of him as a real life horror movie.
8. Which of these was NOT a serial killer in Germany?

Answer: Max Born

Max Born was German physicist who did much of his work in quantum theory.

Fritz Haarmann was known as Butcher of Hanover. Karl Denke was known as The Cannibal of Münsterberg. And Peter Kürten was the Düsseldorf Monster.
9. What was the 'Vampire of Düsseldorf's' real name?

Answer: Peter Kurten

He was a serial killer in Germany; he committed his first murder when he was nine years old. He couldn't stop killing after his first victim.
10. What was Larry Gene Bell's excuse for killing his victims?

Answer: "The bad Larry Gene Bell did it."

Investigative Support Unit agents offered an interrogation strategy that would allow for Bell to confess without tarnishing his "reputation." That was the explanation that he gave.
