Saartjie Bosman left for England in 1810 under the impression (wrongly held) that she would become wealthy if placed on exhibition. She was first displayed in Piccadilly where the crowd viewed her as little different from an animal. Four years later she was moved to Paris where she was exhibited by a wild animal trainer.
