Hemingway was apparently very fond of polydactyl cats, which are cats with more than 5 toes on any given paw. Some of the cats in residence are descendants of his first polydactyl cat.

Hemingway's first six-toed cat was a tomcat. Many years ago, ship captains believed six-toed cats to be good luck.

The house was built by Asa Tift in 1851 and became Ernest Hemingway's home in 1931. The house is located on Oak Street in what is considered to be "Old Town Key West".

Answer: Pauline

Hemingway's marriages to Pauline, Hadley and Martha did not last. He was still married to Mary when he died in 1961. Elizabeth "Hadley" was the first wife on September 3, 1921. They divorced March 10, 1927. Two months after that divorce, he married Pauline only to divorce her on November 4, 1940. Martha, wife number three, married Hemingway the day after his divorce was final to Pauline on November 5, 1940.

Hemingway and Martha divorced on December 21,1945. He married his last wife, Mary, three months later on March 14, 1946 and remained married to her until his death.
10. What did Hemingway's wife replace all of the ceiling fans in the house with?

Answer: chandeliers

Pauline collected many chandeliers while living in Paris. She had them shipped to Key West when she and Hemingway bought this house. She also opened up a gift shop in the Hemingway House after Ernest moved out and called it the Carolina Shop.
