The Bluebell and The Black Lion are public houses they frequented in New Quay, where they lived between September 1944 and the summer of 1945.

Caitlin arrived at the hospital shortly before his death, and afterwards had to be restrained in a straightjacket. She was institutionalised for a while after this. The cause of death was recorded as 'alcoholic poisoning'.
