Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Born in 1912, Barbara Hutton was an heiress to a fortune made by which family?

Answer: Woolworth

Hutton's mother was the daughter of Frank Winfield Woolworth, although daddy was also rich, being the co-founder of E.F. Hutton and Company, an investment bank. Barbara's share of the family fortune was left in trust to her when her grandmother died and made her one of the richest women in the world by the time she reached the age of 21.

The money did not bring her happiness, and she was known as 'The Poor Little Rich Girl' in the press. Hutton married and divorced seven husbands, including Cary Grant, with none of her marriages lasting to their fifth anniversary.
2. Aristotle Onassis was well known as the second husband of Jacqueline Kennedy. He had two children by his first wife, with his daughter inheriting 55% of his fortune. What was her name, which was also the name of his famous yacht?

Answer: Christina

Onassis made his money from shipping, and consolidated his fortune by marrying Athina Livanos, the daughter of another shipping magnate, in 1946. They had two children; Alexander was born in 1948 and was killed in an aeroplane accident in 1973 and Christina, born in 1950. Onassis and Athina divorced following her discovery of his affair with opera singer Maria Callas and that affair ended eight years later when Onassis proposed to Jackie Kennedy. Onassis himself died soon after his son in 1975. Christina died in 1988 at the age of only thirty seven, with the family fortune passing to her only daughter, named Athina after her grandmother. So far, Athina appears to have avoided the Greek tragedy which surrounded the Onassis family.
3. Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches Honeyblossom and Little Pixie had which wealthy Irish musician as their father?

Answer: Bob Geldof

These are the daughters born to Bob Geldof and Paula Yates, and Bob also took over the guardianship of Paula's daughter by Michael Hutchence after Paula's death in 2000. Fifi has mainly kept out of the spotlight, but Peaches has made more of a career of being a socialite.

She married Max Drummey in August 2008 but the marriage lasted barely six months. Younger sister, Pixie, has also been pictured about town, although she is officially described as a model.
4. John Paul Getty III died on 5 February 2011. He was the grandson of Jean Paul Getty, once named as the richest living American. In which industry did the family make their money?

Answer: Oil

Jean Paul Getty was the son of George Franklin Getty who founded the Minnehoma Oil Company. Although Jean Paul took time out to become a 'playboy' he returned to business, investing heavily in the Middle East. This was a gamble, as oil had not been discovered in the region at the time, but it paid off handsomely.

His son, John Paul Getty II settled in the UK, becoming a British citizen in 1997, and was a well known philanthropist. John Paul Getty III suffered a traumatic kidnap in 1973, and later suffered from alcohol and drug addictions.

He was left quadriplegic in 1981 following a stroke caused by these addictions. His son, Balthazar Getty, is an actor.
5. American socialite Paris Hilton is a descendant of Conrad Hilton, who founded the Hilton Hotels chain. Paris has a sister who has also made her mark as a 'girl about town'. By what name is she usually known?

Answer: Nicky

The sisters are the great-grandaughters of Conrad Hilton, who bought his first hotel in 1919 before building up a world wide empire. Nicky's full name is Nicholai Olivia Hilton, and she has been involved in fashion and modelling. She has also managed the almost obligatory short-lived marriage, which was annulled soon after it took place. Paris has lived an even higher profile lifestyle and has been charged with drink and drug offences, leading to time in gaol.
6. Calum Best was born in 1981 to parents George and Angie. In which sport did daddy George make his money?

Answer: Soccer

George Best played for Manchester United, one of the best known English football clubs, between 1963 and 1974 and was an instantly recognizable figure. He was often referred to as the 'fifth Beatle' and his remark 'I spent 90% of my money on women, drink and fast cars.

The rest I wasted.' is regularly quoted. Sadly, his alcoholism led to an early death after years of ill health. Belfast's City airport has since been renamed in his honour. Calum Best has made a career out of appearances on reality television shows and dating well known women, including Lindsay Lohan.
7. Donald and Ivana Trump had one daughter together, born in 1981. What name was she given?

She has also appeared on reality television shows, including her father's show 'The Apprentice'. The other names are those of well-known Czech women: Eva Herzigova and Daniela Pestova were both known as supermodels and Martina Navratilova was an extemely successful tennis player.
8. Media personalities Victoria and Isabella Hervey were fathered by the aristocratic Victor Hervey. He was better known as the 6th Marquess of which west country English port?

Answer: Bristol

The Hervey family has been described as 'unconventional'. The 7th Marquess died from AIDS after years of drug abuse and the loss of his fortune. He was the half brother to Lady Victoria and Lady Isabella Hervey, with the title now having passed to their brother, Frederick. Both sisters have followed the well trodden route of appearing on numerous television shows, including 'Celebrity Masterchef' (Isabella) and 'Love Island' (Victoria).

Although the other cities named do have their own Marquesses, Bristol is the only one which is a port.
9. Kimberly Stewart was born in 1979. Daddy was Rod Stewart, but who was Mummy?

Answer: Alana Hamilton

Rod has fathered several children, with his first child being born in 1964 and adopted. He had no children from his relationship with Britt and two, Kimberly and Sean from his marriage to Alana. Kelly Emberg gave birth to Ruby and Rachel to Renée and Liam. Rod married Penny Lancaster in 2007 and they have a son, Alastair, born in 2005 with another baby due in 2011. Kimberly is described as an actress, model and fashion designer and has been described as being 'best friends' with Paris Hilton.
10. Heiress Gloria was born in 1924 into a family which had made its fortune in the railroad industry. What was the family surname?

She studied art and was a successful painter and designer. During the 1970s, she allowed her name to be used in the fashion trade, notably on designer jeans. L'Oreal also brought out several perfume ranges bearing her name.
