Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for the New Testament book that tells of Jesus restoring sight to Bartimaeus and mentions him by name.

Answer: Mark

Bartimaeus was a helpless blind beggar at Jericho who regained his sight after he had a dramatic encounter with Jesus. His heartwarming story appears in Mark 10:46-52. According to Scripture, Bartimaeus was the son of Timaeus, but no other details are given about his family. After Bartimaeus miraculously regained his sight, Jesus told him his faith had made him well.

To prevent getting an endless number of correction notices, it must be pointed out other Gospels tell of Jesus restoring sight to blind men at Jericho, but it is only the Gospel of Mark in which Bartimaeus is mentioned by name.
2. Find the match for the New Testament book that tells of the meeting between Jesus and Zacchaeus.

Answer: Luke

Zacchaeus, of course, was the short man who climbed up a sycamore tree in Luke 19:1-10 to get a better look at Jesus passing through town. According to Wikipedia, Jericho is believed to be one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world.

Zacchaeus was the chief tax collector of the city. In other words, he was in charge of all the tax collectors who would've been overcharging the people and pocketing the difference. Zacchaeus, of course, would be getting a cut from each tax collector under him.

However, he was determined to set things right with Jesus. In Luke 19:8, he tells Jesus: "Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold."

The account of Jesus meeting Zacchaeus is found in only Luke.
3. Find the match for the New Testament book that tells of the encounter between Jesus and Nicodemus.

Answer: John

The encounter between Jesus and Nicodemus, a Pharisee, is documented in only the Gospel of John. In John 3:3, Jesus tells Nicodemus no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. Then in verse 16, Jesus makes the famous declaration: "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." It's that statement which has become a pillar of the evangelical Christian movement.
4. Find the match for the New Testament book that states, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Answer: Matthew

Matthew is the correct answer with the verse coming from Chapter 11, Verse 28. To put the verse in cotext, here's how Matthew 11:28-30 reads in the NKJV: "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

The Gospel of Matthew is not only the first of the four Gospels, but also the first book in the New Testament. It appears before Mark, which is followed by Luke and John.

Theologians believe the Gospel of Matthew was written for a Jewish audience as it makes numerous references to the Old Testament and prophecy about the coming Messiah.
5. Find the match for the New Testament book that makes mention of Chloe.

Answer: 1 Corinthians

Chloe is mentioned in only 1 Corinthians. According to 1 Corinthians 1:11, members of Chloe's household made the apostle Paul aware of divisions in the church at Corinth. In the NIV, Paul writes, "My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe's household have informed me that there are quarrels among you." Paul then goes on to exhort the believers at Corinth to end their bickering.
6. Find the match for the New Testament book that makes mention of Apphia.

Answer: Philemon

Apphia is mentioned in only Philemon, a letter written by Paul. Many theologians believe she was the wife of Philemon. In his letter to Philemon, Paul begins by writing, "To Philemon, our beloved friend and fellow laborer, to the beloved Apphia, Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house." In addition to concluding Apphia was the wife of Philemon, many scholars have concluded Archippus was their son.

In his letter, Paul goes to bat for Onesimus, a slave who had run away from Philemon. After Onesimus ran away from Philemon, who lived in Colosse (which is in present day Turkey), Paul ended up meeting the slave in Rome, and converted him to Christianity. In his letter, Paul makes a passionate appeal to Onesimus' master to accept him back, not as a slave, but as an equal in Christ.
7. Find the match for the New Testament book that makes mention of Lois and Eunice.

Answer: 2 Timothy

Lois and Eunice are mentioned in only 2 Timothy, a letter written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. According to Chapter 1, Verse 5, Lois was Timothy's grandmother and Eunice was his mother. Timothy was a worker in the early church who was known for being young and timid.
8. Find the match for the New Testament book that tells of Cornelius.

Answer: Acts

Cornelius was among the first Gentile believers in the early church. His story is told in the tenth chapter of Acts. According to Scripture, Cornelius was a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment. Although centurions were the elite of a ruthless Roman killing machine, they are portrayed in remarkably good light in the New Testament.
9. Find the match for the New Testament book of which the author is not known.

Answer: Hebrews

Although Hebrews is a popular book in the New Testament, no one knows for certain who wrote it. Some theologians believe Paul was the author but many others strongly dispute the belief. According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, strong cases have been made over the centuries for the likes of Apollos and Barnabas to be authors of Hebrews. Notes in the NKJV Study Bible also state scholar Adolf Harnack has suggested Priscilla is the author.

On top of uncertainty about the identity of the book's author, it is unknown when it was written. However, the general assumption is it was written prior to AD64, before Nero's persecution of Christians.

Hebrews is the nineteenth book in the New Testament. It appears immediately after Philemon and is followed by the Epistle of James.
10. Find the match for the New Testament book that appears after Galatians and before Philippians.

Answer: Ephesians

Ephesians appears in the New Testament after Galatians and before Philippians. In the order of appearance, it is the fifth of thirteen books written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. The first four books by Paul are Romans, First Corinthians, Second Corinthians and Galatians. The book is addressed to members of the early church at Ephesus, the capital of the Roman province of Asia. The area is part of present-day Turkey.

"Ephesians like so much of Paul's writing, underscores the truth that salvation is by faith alone and not through works of human striving," state notes in the NKJV Study Bible.
