Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for the New Testament book that tells of Agabus.

Answer: Acts

The name Agabus can be found in only the book of Acts. He is mentioned in Acts 11:28 and 21:10. He was a prophet who is best known for taking Paul's belt and binding his hands and feet to illustrate what would happen to Paul should he go to Jerusalem. Details can be found in Acts 21:8-13.

Sure enough, the chapter goes on to tell of Paul being severely beaten and arrested. And true to the prediction of Agabus, Paul would be eventually turned over the Gentiles and be executed in Rome.
2. Find the match for the New Testament book that tells of the wise and foolish virgins.

Answer: Matthew

The parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins is found in Matthew 25:1-13 and no where else in Scripture. The moral of the parable is for Christians to be always prepared for the return of the Lord, because you never know when it is going to happen.

The parable tells of ten unmarried women waiting for the wedding possession that went from the bride's home to the home of her husband. Obviously, there were no streetlights in Biblical times and it was important for the women to bring lamps.

According to the passage, five of the women were foolish as they had no oil in their lamps while five were wise as they came prepared with oil.

Notes in the NKJV Study Bible state the possession of oil illustrates the concept of being prepared while a lack of oil represents being unprepared for Christ's return.
3. Find the match for the New Testament book that mentions the community of Nain.

Answer: Luke

The community of Nain is mentioned in only the Gospel of Luke. According ti Luke 7:11-15, it was at Nain Jesus raised a widow's son from the dead. The widow and her son are not identified. According to the Thompson Chain-Reference Study Bible, Nain is ten miles (about sixteen kilometres) south of Nazareth.
4. Find the match for the New Testament book that uses the word 'immediately' more than any other book in the entire Christian Bible.

Answer: Mark

It's not really a contest with the word 'immediately' appearing thirty-six times in the Gospel of Mark using the NKJV. The next closest is Matthew with nineteen incidents in which the word 'immediately' is used, followed by Luke and Acts, each with eighteen cases. After that it's John with seven instances. Rounding out the New Testament are Galatians, James and Revelations with one each. In the entire Old Testament, there are only seven uses of the word 'immediately'.

In general, the Gospel of Mark tells of a Jesus who is a Man of action, getting results immediately. The Gospel focuses on Christ's many miracles, rather than on His teachings.
5. Find the match for the New Testament book that tells of Jesus healing the nobleman's son.

Answer: John

Details about Jesus healing the unnamed son of a nobleman are found in John 4:46-54 and no where else in the Bible. The miraculous healing took place on the heels of Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman at the well.

According to Scripture, the healing of the nobleman's son took place in Cana, the same community in which Jesus turned water into wine.

Scripture tells of a nobleman "imploring" Jesus to heal his son "for he was at the point of death." John 4:50 quotes Jesus as telling the nobleman, "Go your way; your son lives."

When the nobleman returned home, he was ecstatic to find out his son was well. Scripture goes on to state the man "believed, and his whole household."
6. Find the match for the New Testament book that consists of three chapters.

Answer: Titus

Titus consists of only three chapters and is the seventeenth book, in order of appearance, in the New Testament. Titus appears immediately after 2 Timothy and is followed by Philemon. The book was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, and addressed to Titus, a worker in the early church who served on the island of Crete.

According to Galatians 2:3, Titus was Greek and was converted by Paul.
7. Find the match for the New Testament book that states in the NKJV, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God."

Answer: Ephesians

Ephesians is the correct answer with the words in the question found in Ephesians 2:8. To put the verse in context, here's how Ephesians 2:8-9 read in the NKJV: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."

Ephesians is one of thirteen books in the New Testament the apostle Paul is credited with writing. The book was addressed to members of the early church in Ephesus in present day Turkey. The book consists of six chapters.
8. Find the match for the New Testament book in which Paul states in the NKJV, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

Answer: 2 Timothy

The verse in question is found in 2 Timothy 4:7. It is believed Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, wrote 2 Timothy shortly before his execution in Rome. Timothy was a young and timid worker in the early church who often labored alongside Paul. As a result, Paul often refers to Timothy as his son in Scripture.

After telling Timothy he had "fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith," Paul goes on to state he had been abandoned by his co-workers and that only Luke was with him.
9. Find the match for the New Testament book in which Paul sings the praises of Epaphroditus.

Answer: Philippians

Epaphroditus was apparently assigned by members of the early church in Philippi to assist Paul in his ministry. Epaphroditus is mentioned in only Philippians 2:25-30, but Paul makes it abundantly apparent he was a highly valued worker in the early church, having no regard for his own life.

Philippians 2:25-30 tells of Epaphroditus becoming sick and almost dying, with God sparing him. In the passage, Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, writes Epaphroditus should be held in esteem.

Philippi, by the way, was the community in which Paul converted Lydia, the seller of purple cloth, and the unnamed jailer to Christianity. According to Scripture, the entire households of Lydia and the jailer were baptized.
10. Find the match for the New Testament book that makes mention of Smyrna.

Answer: Revelation

Revelation is the correct answer. Out of the seven churches mentioned in Revelation 2 and 3, Smyrna is known as the persecuted church. The six other churches mentioned in the two chapters in Revelation are Ephesus, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.

Smyrna was a Greek city on the Aegean coast of present-day Turkey. Revelation, the last book of the New Testament, was written by John while in exile on the island of Patmos.
