Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for the book that tells of an angel visiting Zacharias, father of John the Baptist.

Answer: Luke

The account of the angel Gabriel visiting Zacharias is found in Luke 1:5-25 and nowhere else in the Bible. (In the NIV, Zacharias is known as Zechariah.) The passage states Zacharias and his wife Elizabeth were elderly and childless when Gabriel announced they would become parents of a baby boy who would be called John.

The child grew up to become known as John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus Christ.
2. Find the match for the book telling of Peter healing an unnamed paralyzed man.

Answer: Acts

Details about Peter miraculously healing an unnamed paralyzed man can be found in Acts 3 and nowhere else in the Bible. Scripture states Peter was with John when he came across a man who was paralyzed from birth and begging for money. Peter took matters into his hands and proclaimed: "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk." Miraculously, the man got up and walked!

For more details, see Acts 3:1-10.
3. Find the match for the book telling of various people being commended for their faith.

Answer: Hebrews

Hebrews 11 commends a number of people from the Old Testament for their faith. The chapter begins by stating, "faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

No one knows for certain who wrote Hebrews. However, the consensus is the writer was Jewish, as a major theme of the book urges members of the early church not to go back to Judaism.
4. Find the match for the book that tells of the author seeing four angels standing at the four corners of the earth.

Answer: Revelation

Details about four angels standing at the four corners of the world appear in Revelation 7:1. John, the author of Revelation, reported seeing in a vision the angels holding the four winds of the earth. As a result, the wind would "not blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree." The chapter goes on to tell of hundred and forty-four thousand people from of all the tribes of Israel being sealed.

Revelation is a book that has perplexed and challenged readers for two millennia.
5. Find the match for the book that contains more details about Christ's Sermon on the Mount than any other New Testament book.

Answer: Matthew

Matthew is the correct answer. The Gospel contains detailed coverage of Christ's famous Sermon on the Mount, with a comprehensive report running from Chapter 5 through 7. Scholars believe Matthew, a tax collector, knew a form of shorthand and was thus able to take detailed notes.

Matthew, one of the original Twelve Disciples, was also known as Levi.
6. Find the match for the book that tells of Nathanael proclaiming Jesus as the Son of God.

Answer: John

John 1:49 tells of Nathanael, one of the original Twelve Disciples, proclaiming Jesus to be the Son of God shortly after He met him. Nathanael is known as Bartholomew in the three other Gospels, but in John he is known as Nathanael.

It was not uncommon for people in the New Testament to go by two different names. For example, Peter was also known as Simon and Matthew as Levi.
7. Find the match for a New Testament book that consists of only one chapter.

Answer: Philemon

Philemon consists of only one chapter, similar to three other New Testament books -- 2 John, 3 John and Jude. Philemon is a heartfelt letter from Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, and addressed to Philemon, a member of the early church who was the owner of the run-away slave Onesimus.

After Onesimus ran away from Philemon, Paul apparently converted Onesimus to Christianity. In the letter, Paul urges Philemon to accept back Onesimus not as a run-away slave, but as an equal in Chrst.
8. Find the match for the book that appears seventh in the New Testament.

Answer: 1 Corinthians

In the order of appearance, 1 Corinthians is the seventh book in the New Testament. It appears after Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts and Romans.

1 Corinthians, as well as 2 Corinthians, was written by Paul and addressed to believers in the early church at Corinth. A famous chapter in 1 Corinthians is Chapter 13, known as the Love Chapter.
9. Find the match for the book that mentions Philologus, Julia, Nereus and Olympas.

Answer: Romans

Philologus, Julia, Nereus and Olympas are all mentioned by Paul in Romans 16. The names are found nowhere else in the Bible. In Romans 16, Paul extends hearty greetings to a lengthy list of names, many of them found nowhere else in the Bible. Little is known about Philologus, Julia, Nereus and Olympas as they are mentioned in passing reference.

However, many people believe Philogus and Julia were husband and wife and Nereus and Olympas were their children.
10. Find the match for the book in which Paul states he was beaten with rods three times.

Answer: 2 Corinthians

In 2 Corinthians 11:22-35, Paul writes about his horrible sufferings while preaching the Gospel message. According to Verse 25, Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, had been beaten with rods three times. In the passage, he states he had been whipped five times, receiving a total of one hundred and ninety-five lashes, and he had been stoned once, as well as shipwrecked on three occasions, spending no less than a a night and a day in open water.

He also tells of being hungry, cold and naked and being in constant danger from robbers and the like.
