Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The prophet of God who defeated four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal in a showdown on Mount Carmel

Answer: Who is Elijah?

Elijah is known for a number of things, including easily defeating four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal in a dramatic showdown on Mount Carmel. According to 1 Kings 18, Elijah and the prophets of Baal faced off to see who could call upon a higher power to ignite a sacrificial offering on the mountain.

While the four hundred and fifty prophets called on Baal, Elijah called on the LORD to ignite his sacrificial offering. Scripture states it was no contest, with Elijah being the clear winner.
2. The assistant of Elisha who was struck with leprosy

Answer: Who is Gehazi?

Gehazi was struck with leprosy after he fraudulently obtained a reward from Naaman who had been cleansed of leprosy by Elisha. 2 Kings 5:20-27 tells of Elisha refusing to accept a reward from Naaman, a Syrian army commander, who had been miraculously cleansed of the disease.

However, the passage tells of Gehazi catching up with Naaman after his departure and asking to receive a talent of silver and two sets of clothing. Naaman was pleased to respond to Gehazi's request and gave him two talents of silver and two sets of clothing. Later, Gehazi would deny his actions to Elisha and there would be a price to pay for his dishonesty. Verse 27 in the NKJV states after Gehazi left the presence of Elisha he was "leprous, as white as snow."
3. The father of Samson, a super strong judge of Israel

Answer: Who is Manoah?

Manoah was the father of Samson, a super strong judge of Israel. However, no name is given in Scripture for Samson's mother.

According to Judges 13:1-24, Manoah's wife was unable to conceive but things changed dramatically after she was visited by an Angel of the LORD. The miracle baby was called Samson, as per Verse 24.
4. The man whose unnamed wife told him to curse God and die

Answer: Who is Job?

Job's unnamed wife had a simple message for him in most Bible versions after he was beset by a series of calamities: "Curse God and die!" (Or as the Easy to Read Versions states, "Why don't you just curse God and die!")

While it's easy to point an accusing finger at Job's wife, it must be remembered that the series of calamities experienced by Job also deeply impacted her. For example, Scripture tells of their ten children being killed when a severe windstorm toppled the house they were in. In addition to ending up with extremely poor health, Job lost his immense wealth and his wife would have had to deal with those two issues head on as well.

Through it all, Job didn't point an accusing finger at God. The book of Job, however, has a happy ending with Scripture telling of God bestowing immense blessings on Job and his wife in their latter years.
5. The last judge of Israel, who was the father of Joel and Abijah

Answer: Who is Samuel?

Samuel, the last judge of Israel, was the father of two sons, Joel and Abijah. No name is given for Samuel's wife.

Samuel was known for his honesty and his deep love for God. However, such wasn't the case with his two sons. 1 Samuel 8:1-3 in the NKJV states Joel and Abijah "turned aside after dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice."

After Samuel's rule as a judge, the Israelites began being led by monarchs with Saul being the first king.
6. The crippled son of Jonathan, the best friend of David

Answer: Who is Mephibosheth?

Mephibosheth was the crippled son of David's best friend Jonathan, and the grandson of King Saul. 2 Samuel 4:4 states Mephibosheth was "lame in both feet." After the deaths of Jonathan and Saul, David made sure Mephibosheth was taken care of. In fact, 2 Samuel 9:7 quotes David as telling Mephibosheth, "you shall eat bread at my table continually."
7. The Egyptian woman who invited Joseph to lie in bed with her

Answer: Who is Potiphar's wife?

Potiphar's wife attempted to seduce Joseph; when her advances were resisted she became furious and Joseph ended up paying the price. The story of Joseph and Potiphar's unnamed wife is found in the 39th chapter.

According to Scripture, Potiphar's wife accused Joseph of attempted rape when her advances were spurned by the young Hebrew slave. Her story was believed by the Egyptian officials and Joseph ended up being tossed into prison for a crime he never committed.
8. The son of Boaz and Ruth and the grandfather of David

Answer: Who is Obed?

Obed was the son of Boaz and Ruth and the grandfather of David, the fearless shepherd boy who became king of Israel. According to Ruth 4:17, Obed was the father of Jesse and Jesse was the father of David.

Obed's name is included in the genealogy of Christ in Matthew 1:5.
9. The third last book in the Old Testament using the KJV

Answer: What is Haggai?

Using Bible versions such as the KJV, NJKV and the NIV, the third last book of the Old Testament is Haggai. Consisting of two chapters, Haggai is part of the Minor Prophet section. It is followed by Zechariah and Malachi.

Haggai served as a prophet during the building of the second temple in Jerusalem.
10. The number of chapters in the Book of Ruth using the KJV

Answer: What is 4?

Using Bible versions such as the KJV, NKJV and NIV, the Book of Ruth consists of four chapters. The book tells of a romance between Ruth, a Moabite widow, and Boaz, a wealthy Jewish landowner. Their marriage would result in the birth of Obed, the grandfather of King David.

The names Ruth and Boaz both appear in the genealogy of Christ in Matthew 1:5.
