Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the first child mentioned in the Old Testament?

Answer: Cain

The first child mentioned in the Old Testament is Cain, the son of Adam and Eve. According to Genesis 4:1, after Cain's birth, Adam and Eve said they had "acquired a man from the LORD." Abel, the second child of Adam and Eve, is mentioned in the following verse.

The fourth chapter of Genesis goes on to tell of Cain killing Abel in a severe fit of jealousy.
2. Who made sacrifices in case any of his children had sinned?

Answer: Job

Job is the correct answer. According to Job 1:1-5, Job had seven sons and three daughters who loved having feasts together. Verse 5 states when feasting had ended, Job would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings in case any of them had sinned against God. The verse goes on to state Job offered burnt offerings on behalf of his children on a regular basis.
3. According to Genesis 9:18-24, who was Noah's youngest son?

Answer: Ham

Noah and his unnamed wife had three sons with Ham being the youngest, as per Genesis 9:24. The two other sons of Noah were Shem and Japheth.

Scripture states Noah and his wife and their three sons and their unnamed wives took refuge in a gigantic ark and were saved when floodwaters engulfed the world. Details about the flood can be found in Genesis 7 and 8.
4. Who was Jacob's youngest son, as per Genesis 35:16-18?

Answer: Benjamin

Benjamin was the youngest son of Jacob. Benjamin's mother was Rachel and he was the brother of Joseph.

According to Scripture, Rachel died giving birth to Benjamin. Just before she died, she called the baby Ben-Oni, but Jacob changed the name to Benjamin. (See Genesis 35:18.)

In addition to Benjamin and Joseph, Jacob was the father of ten other sons and one daughter. Jacob was also married to Leah, Rachel's older sister. On top of this, he fathered sons with two concubines, Zilpah and Bilhah.
5. What prophet of God spoke about a time of wonderful peace in which a little child leads a wide variety of animals, including lions, leopards, wolves and lambs?

Answer: Isaiah

Details about a little child leading a variety of wild beasts as well as domesticated animals co-existing in peace are found in Isaiah 11:6. The verse in the NKJV states:
"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them."

Many Christians believe Isaiah 11 is prophecy pertaining to Jesus Christ. Verse 1 of the chapter, for example, states, "There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots."

Jesse was the father of King David and the term Son of David is a Messianic term used to describe Jesus in the New Testament. (See verses such as Matthew 12:23, Matthew 15:22, Matthew 22:41-46, Mark 10:47 and Romans 1:3-6.) The term Son of David also appears a number of times in the Old Testament.
6. What Old Testament book mentions how wonderful grandchildren are?

Answer: Proverbs

Proverbs is the correct answer, as per Proverbs 17:6. The verse in the NKJV states, "Children's children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their father." The same verse in the NIV states, "Children's children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children."

The Book of Proverbs contains a large number of witty sayings and is popular with Jews and Christians around the world. In both the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Bible, Proverbs appears after Psalms.
7. What king made a wise decision about a baby claimed by two women? (1 Kings 3:16-28)

Answer: Solomon

Two harlots both claimed the same baby as their own and there seemed to be no way the issue was going to get resolved until Solomon, king of Israel, entered the picture.

To settle the dispute, Solomon told the two women the baby should be cut in half. The real mother was vehemently opposed to such action while the fake mother indicated Solomon's plan was a way of bringing an end to the dispute. When the real mother expressed horror at the baby being cut in two, Solomon was able to determine who the real mother was.

According to Scripture, Solomon's judgment was rendered on the heels of his request to God for wisdom. Solomon is lavishly praised in the Old Testament for his wisdom, and the case involving the two harlots and the baby is cited as an example of that wisdom.
8. What young man did Paul say knew the Scriptures from childhood?

Answer: Timothy

Timothy is the correct answer, as per 2 Timothy 3:15. In the verse, Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, praises Timothy, stating "from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus."

Paul goes on to state in Verse 16: "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."

Timothy was a young and timid worker in the early church who had a special friendship with Paul.
9. Who said we must change and become little children? (Matthew 18:1-5)

Answer: Jesus

In Matthew 18:1-5, Jesus is quoted as telling the Twelve Disciples they must be "converted and become as little children" or they will not see the kingdom of heaven. He made the statement after the disciples demanded to know who will be the "greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"

Verses 3-5 tell of Jesus calling an unnamed little child into the midst of the disciples to make His point. In the verses, Jesus is quoted in the NKJV, as saying: "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me."

The statement by Christ must have been shocking, and troubling, to the disciples as it was made in an era when children were to be seen and not heard. Children, as well as women, were seen as so grossly inferior they were not even included in the census figures of the day.
10. In which Gospel are details NOT given about Jesus blessing little children?

Answer: John

Details about Jesus blessing little children are found in Matthew 19:13-15, Mark 10:13-16 and Luke 18:15-17. However, no such details appear in the Gospel of John. The fact details do not appear in John is not necessarily surprising, as the Gospel concentrates on the final few weeks leading up to Christ's crucifixion and His resurrection.

The three other Gospels offer a look at Christ's ministry over a three-year period.
