Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How does Paul describe the teachings he gives to Timothy?

Answer: As prophesies once made about him

In Paul's letter to Timothy, the teachings that were given to Timothy were actually instructions for his ministry in Ephesus. In 1 Timothy 1:3, Paul asks Timothy to warn those about various false teachings of the word and to make those aware that men have wandered away from righteousness. Now in verse 18, it says that those instructions and teachings Timothy received from Paul were based on prophesies that were once made about him so that he can fight the good fight.

The meaning behind that verse seems to be that Timothy received a prophetic word regarding this during his ordination ceremony. That is primarily the reason behind Paul's instruction to Timothy.
2. How many books are in the Catholic Bible?

Answer: 73

In most Protestant Bibles, there are 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament. However, in the Catholic Bible, there are 7 extra books in the Old Testament known as the Apocrypha. Those books not listed in Protestant Bibles are Tobit, Judith, 1st and 2nd Maccabees, Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach, and Baruch.

While the Catholic Old Testament has 46 books, their New Testament has 27 books just like in Protestant religions.
3. Which Christian denomination believes that in Holy Communion, the bread and wine is taken along with (but not changing into or representing) the body and blood?

Answer: Lutherans

Lutherans believe that in Holy Communion, Jesus' body and blood is taken supernaturally through the bread and the wine. This has been a mystery for a long time and up to this day.
4. Which of the following is a part of the 5-fold ministry?

Answer: Apostles

The 5-fold ministry consists of apostles, pastors, prophets, teachers, and evangelists. According to Ephesians 4:11-13, "It was he (Jesus Christ) who gave some to be apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullest of Christ." (New International Version)
5. In the Old Testament, there was a covenant between God and whom?

Answer: Abraham

God's covenant to Abraham takes place in Genesis 12:1-3. It says "Now the Lord said to Abram [before his name was changed to Abraham], 'Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and him who curses you I will curse; and by you, all the families of the earth shall bless themselves.'" (New International Version)
6. One of Jesus' well-known miracles is where he turned water into wine during what event?

Answer: Wedding

In chapter 2 of the book of John, Jesus and his disciples attended a wedding celebration at Cana. There he was informed by Mary that they have no more wine. Then Jesus ordered servants to fill up containers with water and draw some out of them. After that, the feast master tasted it and it tasted like wine. In fact, it was wine.
7. What is original sin?

Answer: Sin man is born with

Many Christians believe that ever since Adam and Eve first sinned, sin has gone down generation after generation where it is given to man before he is born. However, various doctrines say that when a child is baptized, man's condition of original sin is removed and is forever a new creature.
8. Complete this beatitude: "Blessed are the peacemakers..."

Answer: "...for they shall be called the children of God"

A beatitude is defined as a supreme blessing provided by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). This beatitude pertains to peacemakers. They are those who live peaceful lives, try to bring peace and friendship to others, and to preserve peace between God and man. By doing these acts through God's love of man, the peacemakers are said to become children of God.
9. What comes after Ascension in the church year?

Answer: Pentecost

Pentecost was 10 days after Jesus' ascension to heaven. That commemorates when the Holy Spirit was given onto the disciples and other followers of Jesus as he ascended to heaven.
10. What attribute is given to the shield as part of the full armor of God?

Answer: Faith

In the book of Ephesians, the shield of faith is described as guarding your heart from the devil's wicked ways, most likely false teachings.
11. Who do miscellaneous Christian doctrines refer to as the second Adam?

Answer: Jesus

1 Corinthians 15:45 basically refers to Jesus as the Second Adam. It says that "it is written; the first man Adam became a living person. The last Adam became a quickening spirit that gives life (Jesus Christ)." (New International Version) That Bible verse tells us that that Adam represents the old man for bringing sin into this world and Jesus represents the new man for bringing life into this world.
12. How did Martin Luther explain the petition in the Lord's Prayer that says, "Give us this day, our daily bread?"
