Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To whom did Jesus say: "Dear woman, why do you involve me?"

Answer: Mary (his mother)

Jesus and his disciples had been invited to a wedding in Cana. Mary was there also. When the hosts of the wedding ran out of wine, Mary came to Jesus and informed him of the problem. Even after answering Mary as if it wasn't his problem, Jesus went ahead and performed his first miracle by turning the water into wine. The quote is from John 2:4.
2. To whom did Jesus answer: "For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only'"?

Answer: The devil

The Bible mentions three temptations that Jesus endured in the desert after 40 days of fasting. Jesus's replies to the devil are direct quotes from the Old Testament, which is why he always started his answers with "It is written."
The quote is from Mathew 4:10.
3. To which of the disciples did Jesus say: "Satan has asked to sift you as wheat, but I have prayed for you that you may not fail."?

Answer: Simon Peter

Peter's response to these words was that he would be ready to go to prison, and even death, with Jesus. To this Jesus announced that before the rooster crowed that day, Peter would have denied him 3 times. (Luke 22:31-34)
4. To whom did Jesus say "Quiet! Be still!"?

Answer: The wind and the waves during a storm

Mark 4:35-41 tells of how Jesus fell asleep while he and his disciples traveled by boat. When a storm started, the disciples hurried to wake him because they were afraid that they were going to drown. Jesus immediately woke up and calmed the storm with the words mentioned in the question.
5. When he first met this man, Jesus said "I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you." Who was the man Jesus saw?

Answer: Nathanael

Nathanael couldn't believe anything good could come out of Nazareth; still, he went with Philip when he invited him to go meet Jesus. Jesus caught his attention by mentioning that he had seen Nathanael even before Philip had called him. Nathanael was so convinced by Jesus's words that he ended up becoming one of the twelve disciples. The quote is from John 1:48.
6. In a conversation after the Resurrection, Jesus asked a person to "take care of my sheep." Who received this request?

Answer: Peter

After the Resurrection, Jesus found the disciples back at their old profession -- fishing. When they saw him on the beach, they hurried to greet him and they ate together. During their conversation, Jesus asked Peter three times, "do you love me?" And after each affirmative answer, Jesus requested Peter feed his lambs, care for his sheep, feed his sheep. It is interesting that he did this three times, the same number of times that Peter had denied knowing Jesus on the night of his arrest.
The quote in the question is from John 21:17.
7. In an encounter never to be forgotten, Jesus asked: "Why do you persecute me?" Whom did he ask that?

Answer: Saul

Saul was on his way to Damascus to persecute the Christians. On the way there, a light from heaven made him fall to the ground. The words that Jesus directed at Saul changed his life forever. Instead of continuing on his persecution of the church, he became one of Jesus's followers. The story is found in the book of Acts, chapter 9. The specific quote is found in verse 4.
8. To which city did Jesus say: "how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing"?

Answer: Jerusalem

In the book of Luke 13:31-35, we find Jesus' sorrowful cry over the city of Jerusalem because of the things that had been done there to God's prophets. Jesus said these words after receiving a warning from the Pharisees in which they told him to leave the city because Herod wanted to kill him.
9. "I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in me will live, even though he dies." Who heard these words of hope from Jesus?

Answer: Martha

Outside of Lazarus' tomb, Jesus spoke these words to Martha, one of Lazarus' sisters. (John 11:25)
10. With whom was Jesus speaking when he said "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again"?

Answer: Nicodemus

Nicodemus came to talk with Jesus under the cover of darkness because he was afraid of what would happen to him. Since he was a member of the Jewish ruling council, it would not have gone well if Jesus' enemies found out. Still, he was curious about all the things Jesus taught and all the miracles that he did.

He became a secret follower of Jesus after this conversation. The story can be found in John 3:1-21.
