Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The number of times that Pilate declared Jesus innocent before condemning him to death

Answer: THREE

Bishop Fulton Sheen remarked in his sermon on Good Friday in 1979 that Pilate "tried it all" - including change of venue (Herod), dismissal by technicality (offering Barabbas' release), and denying authority (washing his hands). But he did give death as a verdict, after saying three times that Jesus was innocent: Luke 23:4 ("I find no fault in this man"), 23:14-15 ("have found no fault in this man"), and 23:22 ("I have found no cause of death in him...").
2. The number of fruits or gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to Galatians 5:22-23

Answer: NINE

From Galatians 5, verses 22 and 23, the fruits are listed as love, joy, peace, longsuffering (or forbearance), gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance (or self-control.
3. The number of apostles named Judas, of the original twelve

Answer: TWO

Luke 6:16 says, "... and Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor." The Judas who survived past the crucifixion of Jesus has been called Jude, and Judas Thaddaeus, among other names.
4. The number of decades that were spanned between the flight from Egypt of the Children of Israel and their arrival at the Promised Land

Answer: FOUR

Joshua 5:6 says, "For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed." Forty years equals four decades in the desert.
5. The number of Beatitudes listed by Jesus in the 5th chapter of Matthew's gospel (Note: the last two "Blesseds" are combined here as one Beatitude)

Answer: EIGHT

The gospel of Matthew (5:3-10) taught the Beatitudes to and for the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, the merciful, the pure of heart, the peacemakers, and the persecuted. Some say there are nine Beatitudes, and upon researching, I found most resources say "eight" combining the last two "Blesseds" as the persecution Beatitude.
6. In Genesis, Chapter 1, the number of times we find the phrase "God said"

Answer: TEN

Genesis 1, verses 3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, 26, 28, 29 list the phrase ten times. Verse 3 begins the list with "And God said 'Let there be light...' " and ends with the tenth iteration of "And God said, 'Behold, I have given you...' " with the gifts of food.
7. The number of people who were preached to death by Paul in the Acts of the Apostles, Chapter 20

Answer: ONE

Acts 20:9 tells of Eutychus, "And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead." But there was a happy ending! Paul embraced Eutychus, and the young man lived.
8. The number of "wise virgins" (out of ten) referred to by Jesus on the Mount of Olives, in the 25th chapter of Matthew's gospel

Answer: FIVE

Matthew 25:1-2 says, "Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish." The tale of the ten virgins meeting the bridegroom followed Jesus' predictions of woe and told of end-of-time signs in chapter 24; he told of the need to be ready.
9. In Exodus chapter 31, verse 15, man is commanded to limit labor to this many days.

Answer: SIX

Taken in context, the reference is to labor being limited to six days, and that the seventh day as the Sabbath must be kept holy. "Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death." (Exodus 31:15)
10. Elisha told Naaman to plunge this many times into the Jordan River, to be cured of leprosy

Answer: SEVEN

In 2 Kings 5:14, we read of Elisha telling Naaman the cure, and Naaman angrily protesting. Naaman's servants reasoned with him and he heeded the prophet's directions, and was cured. Naaman then praised God.
