Answer: Elisha's

An account of this can be found in 2 Kings 13:20-21.

Elisha had died. Some time later, some men were burying a dead man, when a band of Moabites invaded the country. Fearing for their own lives, they hurriedly tossed the dead man into Elisha's tomb, and ran away. As soon as the dead man came into contact with Elisha's bones, he "revived, and stood up on his feet."

Answer: He held her hand and said, "Maid, arise!"

The story of Jesus bringing Jairus' daughter back to life can be found in Luke 8:47-56.

Jairus and his wife sought Jesus' help after their daughter had died. Jesus went to their house, only allowing Peter, James, John, and the girl's parents in with him. Jesus merely held her hand, and said "Maid, arise!" and she did. He then instructed her parents to give her something to eat, and also to not breathe a word about the resurrection to anyone.

Answer: Mary Magdalene

Three out of the four gospels acknowledge Mary Magdalene as being the first human to see Jesus after he had been brought back to life by God.

Mary Magdalene; Mary, the mother of James; and a third woman, identified either as Joanna or Salome, travelled to Jesus' tomb with burial spices, wishing to embalm him. What they found was the burial stone rolled away from the entrance of the tomb, and nothing to be seen of Jesus' body. Unfortunately, from here on in, the four Gospels don't completely agree. A general consensus is that Mary Magdalene saw two angels robed in white, who told her that Jesus had been raised up. Later on, Mary saw the resurrected Jesus in the flesh, who then told her to and spread the Good News.

Answer: Samuel's spirit

1 Samuel 28:3-14 tells us how Saul had "cleansed" (in other words, killed) all those who held seances and consorted with spirits in Israel. However, after he glanced upon the advancing Philistine army, and received no help from God, he became quite desperate. Desperate enough to seek the help of a woman who consulted spirits, and who lived in Endor. Disguised, he travelled to her home, and asked her to consult Samuel's spirit.

The woman saw a spirit ascending from the underground, robed like a priest. Saul realised that this was Samuel's spirit, and fell to the ground in worship.

Answer: Peter

Acts 9:36-42 tells us the story of how Tabitha, a disciple of Joppa, and a well-loved dressmaker who clothed the poor people of her village, died one day. Distraught, the people of her village sought the help of Peter. Peter went to the room where Tabitha had been laid out, and where all her friends surrounded her, mourning. Peter knelt down next to her and prayed, and commanded her, "Tabitha, rise!" She was restored to life, and Peter presented her to the people of Joppa as being alive.

Answer: Seven times

2 Kings 4:8-37 tells the story of Elisha and the Shunammite woman. He firstly told her that she would be able to bear children, which she hadn't been able to do previously. The boy grew up, and then, inexplicably, died. The Shunammite woman called on Elisha, who came into the house and found the boy dead on the bed. Elisha locked the door, and got into the bed with the boy, and he "put his mouth upon his mouth, his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands." The body of the boy became warm as life was slowly restored. Elisha got up, and walked to and fro in the house, then returned to the bed where the boy lay, and once again, stretched himself over the child. The child then sneezed seven times, opened his eyes, and was fully restored to life.

Precisely why the boy sneezed seven times (as well as why Jeremiah, the author of the Book of Kings, chose to include it) is significant. We do, however, know that 7 is a significant number in Christianity.

Answer: A widow

Luke 7:11-17 tells us the story of how Jesus and his disciples were passing through the city of Nain, when they came across a funeral procession, carrying the dead man out of the gates of the city. The man's mother, a widow, was weeping on the side. Jesus felt sorry for her, and went over to her and said "Weep not." He then went over and touched the coffin, and said "Young man, I say unto thee, Arise!" The young man sat up, and began to speak.

The people of the city of Nain glorified God thereafter.

Answer: He fell asleep while Paul was preaching, and fell out of a third storey window.

Paul obviously wasn't a very interesting man to listen to! Yup, strange as it seems, Eutychus fell out of a third story window during one of Paul's sermons. Paul ran down the stairs, and embraced the dead man, and brought him back to life.

This story can be found in Acts 20:9-12.

Answer: Elijah

1 Kings 17:8-24 tells us how God sent Elijah to the city of Zarephath. Elijah asked the woman for food, which she reluctantly gave (as she believed it was only just enough for her and her son), but more food was given to them by the Lord. Later on, the woman's son became sick, and he stopped breathing.

She took him to Elijah, who stretched his whole body out over the boy three times, crying to the Lord "O Lord, my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again." The soul of the child came back into him, and he lived again.

Answer: Four days

Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, had fallen sick. Jesus had met the family before, so Mary and Martha sent word to him saying "Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick."

When he heard the message, Jesus delayed returning to Bethany (where Lazarus lay ill), saying "this sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby." Jesus put off returning to Bethany for two days, but eventually did so, by which time Lazarus had already been dead and in his tomb for four days. Jesus wept for Lazarus, for he had loved him, and then, miraculously, brought him back from the dead.

The story of Lazarus can be found in John 11:1-44.
