Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to the Bible, from what did God form man?

Answer: The dust of the earth

"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being." Genesis 2:7
(New King James Version)

With most of God's work of creation He spoke and it was done, but when He created man, He personally formed him from the dust of the earth and breathed life into him.
2. After God created man, where did He put him?

Answer: A garden in Eden

"The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed." Genesis 2:8 (NKJV)

As a gardener, I love the image given in this passage of God Himself planting a garden.
3. There were many kinds of trees in the garden, but there were two very unique trees. One was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. What was the other unique tree?

Answer: The tree of life

"And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil." Genesis 2:9 (NKJV)

We aren't given much information about the tree of life in this passage, but throughout scripture the tree of life is mentioned. In Proverbs 3:18 (NKJV), we see, "wisdom is like a tree of life to those who take hold of her" and in Proverbs 15:4 (NKJV) "a wholesome tongue is like a tree of life." In Revelation, the last book of the Bible, we see, "In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding is fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations." - Revelation 22:2 (NKJV)
4. How many rivers watered the Garden of Eden?

Answer: One

"Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads." Genesis 2:10 (NKJV)

The names of the four rivers that formed from the river in the garden were Pishon, Bdellium, Gihon and Euphrates. Some believe because the Euphrates that is mentioned the garden of Eden might have been located somewhere in what is now Iraq.
5. God told Adam he could not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. What did God tell Adam would happen if he ate from this tree?

Answer: He would die

"And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, 'Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.'"
Genesis 2:16 (NKJV)

Although this death would eventually be a physical death for Adam, many believe it also refers to a spiritual death.
6. After God created the man, what did God see that was not good?

Answer: The man was alone.

"And the Lord God said, It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him." Genesis 2:18 (NKJV)

The word helper simply means "one who helps" and doesn't necessarily imply someone who is inferior.
7. Where did God first have Adam look for a helper?

Answer: Among the animals

"Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would he would call them. and whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him."
Genesis 2:19,20 (NKJV)

Of all the animals, Adam couldn't find one like himself. Each animal had its mate but Adam was a lonely man. :(
8. "And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man." - Genesis 2:21,22 (NKJV) What did Adam first call the helper God made for him?

Answer: Woman

"And Adam said: 'This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.'" Genesis 2:23 (NKJV)

That must have really been an "Ah ha!" moment for Adam.
9. "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh" - Genesis 2:23 (NKJV). What New Testament teacher used this passage of scripture when teaching about divorce?

Answer: Jesus

"The Pharisees also came to Him [Jesus], testing Him, and saying to Him, 'Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?' And He answered and said to them, 'Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.'" Matthew 19:3-6 (NKJV)

This was a difficult teaching even for Jesus' disciples. "His disciples said to Him, 'If such is the case of the man with his wife, it is better not to marry.'" - Matthew 19:10 (NKJV)
10. "And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not __________." - Genesis 2:25 (New King James Version). What word finishes the quote, in the New King James Version?

Answer: Ashamed

Thus ends the account of creation in all its beauty and innocence, according to the Bible.
