Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you were to say fifteen decades of the most holy rosary in the order of the sorrowful mysteries first, then the joyful mysteries and then the glorious mysteries, will the events that you have meditated on follow in chronological sequence through the Bible?

Answer: No

If you wish to meditate chronologically through the Bible then you say the joyful mysteries first, followed by the sorrowful mysteries and finally the glorious mysteries. However, all mysteries of the most holy rosary are a beautiful way to pray and may be said alone and if time allows with other mysteries.

They may be said at any time or anywhere and alone or with others. If you have no rosary with you, then remember that to count a decade you only need to use your ten fingers! There is an optional set of "Luminous Mysteries" introduced by the late John Paul II in 2002.
2. What is the correct way to describe how a Catholic should pray the most holy rosary?

Answer: meditating on the mysteries and praying to God, through His mother's intercession

Catholics only ever pray to God. The Blessed Virgin Mary, the angels and the saints will however intercede for us, rather like an advocate defending our cause in a court of law.
3. What best describes where the Blessed Virgin's great power of intercession with God originates?

Answer: Her Immaculate Conception and from being mother of Jesus and from her holy life

It is best to quote (as closely as possible) from a novena for the canonisation of Cardinal Newman: "This is why the Blessed Virgin is called powerful, nay sometimes all powerful. She has more than anyone else, more than all the angels and saints, this great prevailing gift of prayer. No one has access to the Almighty as His mother has, no one has merit such as hers.

Her Son will deny her nothing that she asks and herein lies her power..."
4. The first glorious mystery is the resurrection of Jesus from the grave. Which of the following is NOT a way that Jesus spent His time on earth after His resurrection?

Answer: showing Himself to His crucifiers to show that they had achieved the opposite of what they were trying to do

It is most noticeable that Jesus did not chase after general public attention or notice after His resurrection. He had work to do and had so close a bond of love with those associated with Him, that He physically terminated this earthly bond in His way.

It is also noticeable how, despite His great links in this world, He seemed to want the Heavenly Kingdom and its spiritual riches so much more than earthly life.
5. The second glorious mystery is the Ascension of Jesus into Heaven. Which of the following events did Jesus promise as the next step in the Divine plan? It is recorded in the Bible as following Jesus's Ascension.

Answer: the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles

Jesus, prior to his Ascension, made the promise to the disciples that the Holy Spirit would come to them (See Acts Ch.1:6-8). The descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles happened at Pentecost (following the Ascension) and the Holy Spirit came in the form of tongues of fire, which settled on the disciples.

They were inspired and spoke out to all the local people about Jesus and whoever heard them were able to hear them in their own language and thus understand everything said to them. The descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles is the third glorious mystery of the most holy rosary.
6. What is the fourth glorious mystery of the most holy rosary?

Answer: the Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven

The Blessed Virgin is believed to have died a natural death, but her body was shortly afterwards assumed into Heaven (and re-united to her soul) and thus never allowed to be corrupted by decay. The Assumption was defined as Catholic dogma by Pope Pius X11 on November 1st, 1950. All Catholics celebrate the Feast of the Assumption on August 15th of every year and have done so since the 5th century.

It is a holy day of obligation in England and Catholics must attend mass (this will vary in other countries, but why not attend mass anyway?).
7. If you visited Jerusalem would you be able to find a tomb where it is believed that the body of Mary was assumed into Heaven?

Answer: Yes

Just outside the City of Jerusalem and close to the possible site of the Garden of Gethsemane, there is a empty tomb venerated as the place where the body is thought to have been placed.
8. What is the fifth and final glorious mystery of the most holy rosary?

Answer: the Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary as Queen in Heaven

The Blessed Virgin was crowned Queen of Heaven. How sweet a crown to one who had seen the effects of her Son crowned with thorns! The miracles that God works for her - so clearly seen at shrines such as Lourdes - openly portray her character. These miracles put in others much of the joy that the Blessed Virgin Mary must have felt at the resurrection.
9. At the end of the most holy rosary Catholics are encouraged to say a prayer called the "Hail, Holy Queen". Please fill in the missing word from this part of that prayer: "Hail, our life, our _____, and our hope."

Answer: sweetness

Rarely, if ever, would Catholics not use this prayer when the most holy rosary is said publicly.
10. Most Catholics have their own rosary beads. If you get a new set, what is the most important thing that you should do to them as soon as possible?

Answer: have them blessed by a Catholic priest

A blessing from a priest (as with holy objects and many other things) is the correct thing to do and priests will freely assist and welcome you when you ask them to do this task. In doing this you are dedicating your rosary to God's use only.
