Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was Judas's profession before becoming a disciple of Jesus?

Answer: The Bible does not say

The Bible did not mention Judas's profession. When Judas was a disciple, he was in charge of the money. After realizing what he had done, Judas tried to give back the thirty pieces of silver he received for betraying Jesus, but the chief priests and elders wouldn't allow it, since it was blood money. The money was used to buy a field that was used to bury the dead bodies of foreigners. See Matthew 27 for the story.

In the Bible, it was mentioned that Luke was a physician, Levi (also called Matthew) was a tax collector, and Peter, Andrew, James, and John were all fishermen. The jobs of the other disciples are not known.
2. Who persuaded Salome to ask for the head of John the Baptist?

Answer: Her mother, Herodias

Salome danced for Herod on his birthday. Herod was so pleased with her dancing that he allowed her to have whatever she pleased. After consulting with her mother, Herodias, she asked for the head of John the Baptist on a platter. Herod had thoughts of killing John but was worried what the people would think, because they saw John as a prophet. Nevertheless, Herod had John--who was in prison--beheaded. John was in prison, because he told Herod that he should not marry Herodias, who at the time was married to Herod's brother, Philip. (It was Philip who was the father of Salome.)

The story of John's beheading can be found in Matthew 14:1-12 and Mark 6:14-29.
3. In which book in the Old Testament of the Bible is Jezebel mentioned?

Answer: 1 Kings

The story of Jezebel, arguably the most wicked woman in the Bible, can be found in 1 Kings 16-22 and 2 Kings 9. Jezebel was the wife of King Ahab, ruler of Israel. She encouraged the worship of idols and the killing of the followers of God.
Jezebel died when she was thrown out a window by a member of her own court and had her flesh eaten by stray dogs. When her body was to be buried, all that was left was her skull, feet, and hands.
4. What sin did Ananias and Sapphira commit?

Answer: They lied about taking money from the church.

Ananias and Sapphira sold property and all the money they received was supposed to go to the church. However, Ananias (with Sapphira's knowledge) pocketed some of the money. When questioned about it by Peter, Ananias denied he took money. Ananias then died. Following that, Peter asked Sapphira the same thing. She denied the truth and then died. Peter accused them both of lying to the Holy Spirit.

The story of Ananias and Sapphira can be found in Acts 5:1-11.
5. Where were Cain and Abel when Cain killed Abel?

Answer: field

Cain was displeased that God favored Abel's offering (fat portions of the firstborn of his flock) over his own (fruits of the soil in which Cain worked). Cain took his younger brother to the field and killed him. Abel's blood spoke to God, and God cursed Cain to be a wanderer. However, God did prevent anyone from killing Cain.

The story of Cain and Abel can be found in Genesis 4:1-16.
6. For whom did Joseph not interpret a dream?

Answer: Potiphar

Joseph, son of Jacob and Rachel, was given the ability to interpret dreams. This made his brothers jealous, so they sold him into slavery where he was bought by Potiphar and later by the Egyptian pharaoh.
While in prison for supposedly sleeping with Potiphar's wife, Joseph interpreted a dream that a butler and a baker had. The butler's dream involved a vine with three branches which ripened into grapes. The butler put the grapes into Pharaoh's cup. Joseph said that this meant within three days, the butler would be released and restored to his position as butler. The baker's dream involved three baskets of bread and birds eating from them. Joseph said this meant that the baker would be executed.
Two years later, Pharaoh had a dream about seven ugly cows eating seven fat cows. There were also seven good heads of grain followed by seven worthless heads of grain Joseph said this dream meant there would seven years of plenty of food followed by seven years of famine.
Joseph also had a dream involving him and his brothers binding sheaves of grain. Joseph's grain stood upright while the others gathered around it and bowed down to it. This meant that Joseph's brothers would bow down to him.
There is no indication that Joseph interpreted one of Potiphar's dreams.

The story of Joseph and his ability to interpret dreams can be found in Genesis 37-41.
7. Abraham asked God to spare Sodom from destruction if God could find ten righteous people.

Answer: True

Abraham had compassion for the people of Sodom and Gomorrah and did not want to see the righteous die. However, he knew God's judgment of sin, so Abraham asked God for a compromise. Originally, Abraham asked God to spare Sodom if he could find fifty righteous people. However, the number was lowered to forty, thirty, twenty, and eventually ten. God could not find ten people, so Sodom was destroyed except for Lot and his two daughters. God had previously told Lot to take his daughters and leave Sodom, thus sparing their lives.

The story of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah can be found in Genesis 19.
8. What did Zacchaeus do after Jesus asked to stay with him?

Answer: Gave half of his possessions to the poor

Zacchaeus was the chief tax collector who wished to see Jesus when He entered Jericho. However, Zacchaeus was so short that he had to climb into a sycamore tree to get a look. Jesus noticed Zacchaeus and wished to stay in his house. Others weren't so pleased that Jesus would wish to visit the home of a sinner. Zacchaeus decided to give half of his possessions to the poor and if he cheated anybody out of anything, he would pay them back four times the cheated amount.

The story of Zacchaeus can be found in Luke 19:1-10.
9. Where was Elijah when he confronted followers of the god Baal?

Answer: Mount Carmel

The prophet Elijah and 450 people from Israel, who were prophets of Baal, met on Mount Carmel. Elijah wished to show whether his God or Baal was the true God. Elijah suggested that both the Israelites and Elijah select a bull. The prophets of Baal would call on their god, while Elijah would call on his. Whichever bull was lit on fire determined who the real God was. The prophets of Baal prepared the bull then called on Baal to set it on fire but nothing happened no matter how long or how hard they tried. Elijah even teased them suggesting Baal was away or asleep or busy doing something else. Then, Elijah prepared his bull and called on God to set it on fire, which God did. The prophets of Baal then declared God to be Lord.

The story of Elijah on Mount Carmel can be found in 1 Kings 18:16-39.
10. What did God provide to Solomon in addition to the wisdom Solomon requested?

Answer: riches

God asked Solomon what he wanted and promised God would give it to him. In response, Solomon asked for wisdom and knowledge. God said that in addition to that, Solomon would also receive wealth, riches, and honor. This was because Solomon didn't ask for a long life, wealth, riches, honor, or the death of his enemies. Among this wealth and riches were included 1400 chariots and 12,000 horses.

The story of Solomon asking God for wisdom can be found in 2 Chronicles 1:11-12.
