Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If I tell you that this woman's son was the first ever murder victim, can you give me the correct question?

Answer: Who is Eve?

Eve was the first woman and therefore the first mother. When Cain slew Abel, she became the first mother to lose a child. She was also the first mother of a murderer.

Genesis 4:1-8.
2. This man is spoken of in the Bible as NOT covering his father's nakedness after he had over indulged in the vineyard. What is the question that will give the correct name of the man often mentioned along with his two brothers?

Answer: Who is Ham?

Ham, Shem and Japheth were the three sons of Noah. Ham was the father of four sons Cush, Mizraim, Phut and Canaan.

Biblical scholars believe that there were several foul deeds perpetrated by Ham and his sons, none suitable for discussion on a family friendly site. Wikipedia gives several gory details.

Genesis 9:21-23.
3. This princess paid the ultimate price for telling lies and being found out: her life. What is the right question to give you the name of the woman whose body was torn to pieces by a pack of dogs?

Answer: Who is Jezebel?

Jezebel was a princess of Tyre who married King Ahab. When the king's plans were frustrated by a man who refused to sell his family's land, she manufactured evidence against him and the man was killed. When the court realised that they had sentenced an innocent man to death on the word of a lying schemer, they threw her out of the window. A pack of wild dogs ate her corpse, so presumably it was the fall that killed her, rather than the dogs.

The full story is in the 1st and 2nd books of Kings.
4. This true and faithful family man lost all that he had and cursed the day that he was born. Even the knowledge that the protection of the Lord had been removed so that the devil could abuse him did not sway his belief in God. What is the right question to give you the name of this good man?

Answer: Who is Job?

The bible book of Job tells us that God was proud of the steadfastness of Job, but Satan suggested that it was only because Job was protected by God. The protection was removed by God and Satan was allowed to test Job in any way that he liked, short of death. Job lost the support of his wife, his children, his riches and his health.

When Satan admitted defeat, Job was repaid with more riches and a new family.
5. This man went on a three day journey in order to sacrifice his longed for son on the orders of God. At the last moment, a ram was provided instead. What is the correct question to tell us the name of this obedient father?

Answer: Who is Abraham?

Abraham took his son Isaac to the mountain to sacrifice him. His son carried the wood for the sacrificial fire himself, not knowing that he was to be the "sacrificial lamb". God sent an angel to provide a ram at the last moment and Isaac was saved.

The story of Abraham is told in Genesis 11:26 to 25:18.
6. According to Genesis 5, this man lived to 969 years of age, making him the oldest man to have ever lived. What question will give you the name of the grandfather of Noah?

Answer: Who is Methuselah?

Methuselah's age has been the subject of debate among Biblical scholars. I was taught that the Bible is the word of God and therefore true. To reach such a great age is not considered possible by 21st century scientists, but there again, they do not believe in the creation either.
7. This man was originally a fisherman. He was a follower of John the Baptist and then Jesus. What is the correct question that gives the name of the apostle who told Jesus about the boy with the loaves and fishes?

Answer: Who is Andrew?

John 6:8 is where Andrew, brother of Simon Peter, finds the boy with the loaves and fishes.

Tradition states that Andrew was crucified on an X shaped cross, also known as a saltire. The saltire now bears his name.
8. This man was the son of Elizabeth who was an elderly cousin of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Which of the following questions will give the correct name of the man who was killed on the whim of a dancer?

Answer: Who is John?

John the Baptist was a forerunner of Jesus and his story is told in all four of the gospels. The angel Gabriel told Mary that her cousin Elizabeth was already six months pregnant in Luke 1:36, when he visited to inform her about her own miraculous conception.

Salome was the dancer who asked for the head of John the Baptist. She was told to do so by her mother. (Mark 6:21-29)
9. This man was the son of a Greek man and a Jewish woman who was circumcised as an adult by Paul, before becoming his travelling companion. Which question gives the name of this man who had two books of the New Testament addressed to him?

Answer: Who is Timothy?

As the son of a Greek father, Timothy was not circumcised as a child. Paul knew that Timothy would be more acceptable to those that he would be preaching to if this was done.
10. This apostle of Jesus was also known as Didymus (The Twin), but is more famous for needing proof that Jesus had been raised from the dead. What question will give his name?

Answer: Who is Thomas?

The expression "Doubting Thomas" comes down to us because Thomas wanted to see and touch the holes cause by the nails in the hands of Jesus.

John 20:24-29
