Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for Moses. (Exodus 2:21)

Answer: Zipporah

Moses was married to Zipporah, the daughter of Reuel, according to Exodus 2:18 and 21. (Reuel is also known as Jethro.) Moses met up with Zipporah in Midian when he fled there after he killed an Egyptian man who was beating a Hebrew man in Egypt. Moses and Zipporah were the parents of two sons, Gershom and Eliezer.

According to Biblegateway.com, Zipporah means 'a little bird', or 'a sparrow'.
2. Find the match for Samson. (Judges 14:1)

Answer: Woman from Timnah

Samson was married to an unnamed woman from Timnah, as per Judges 14:1. According to various Websites, Timnah was a Philistine city in Canaan and the woman was almost certainly a Gentile.

Scripture also tells of Samson spending time with a prostitute from Gaza and then falling in love with Delilah. (See Judges 16:1-4.) For the record, most theologians believe Samson was never married to his lover, Delilah.

There is no record in Scripture of Samson being the father of children.
3. Find the match for Aaron. (Exodus 6:23)

Answer: Elisheba

According to Exodus 6:23, Elisheba was the wife of Aaron, the older brother of Moses. The same verse states Aaron and Elisheba were the parents of four sons -- Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. Elisheba was the daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon.

However, little else is known about her as she is mentioned in passing reference.

Aaron, of course, helped lead the Israelites out of Egypt along with his brother Moses and sister Miriam.
4. Find the match for Salmon, as per Matthew 1:5.

Answer: Rahab

According to the genealogy of Christ in the Gospel of Matthew, Salmon's wife was Rahab, the famous prostitute of Jericho who harbored two Israelite spies.

Matthew 1:5, in the NKJV, states: "Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse."

There is no mention, in the Old Testament, however, of Salmon and Rahab being husband and wife.
5. Find the match for Boaz.

Answer: Ruth

Boaz married Ruth, according to Scripture. In fact, the book of Ruth is largely about the romance between the couple. According to Ruth 4:17, their union resulted in the birth of a son, Obed. Scripture goes on to state Obed was the father of Jesse and Jesse was the father of David.

In other words, Boaz and Ruth were great-grandparents of David.
6. Find the match for Elimelech. (Ruth 1:2)

Answer: Naomi

Elimelech, according to Ruth 1:2, was the husband of Naomi. The same verse states they were the parents of two sons, Mahlon and Chilion. (In the NIV, Chilion is known as Kilion.)

Chilion was married to Orpah and Mahlon was married to Ruth.

The first chapter of Ruth states Elimelech and his two sons died leaving as widows Naomi, Orpah and Ruth. No details are given about the cause of their deaths.
7. Find the match for Elkanah. (1 Samuel 1:2)

Answer: Hannah

Hannah was one of two wives of Elkaneh, according to Samuel 1:2. The name of the other wife was Peninnah.

Similar to a number of other women in the Old Testament, Hannah was barren for the longest time before being able to miraculously conceive. (Some of the other women who were in similar circumstances were Sarah, Rebekah and Rachel in the Old Testament and Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, in the New Testament.)

Making things stressful for Hannah was the fact Peninnah seemed to take delight in making Hannah feel small. In fact, 1 Samuel 1:6 states Peninnah provoked Hannah "severely, to make her miserable". (Reminds one of Hagar and Sarah.)

Thanks to divine intervention, Hannan gave birth to Samuel.

On top of this, Hannah had more children after the miraculous birth of Samuel. 1 Samuel 2:21 states, "...the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters."

Taking everything at face value, she had five children. However, some theologians believe she actually had six children as the three sons and two daughters mentioned in Verse 21 are in addition to Samuel.
8. Find the match for Hosea. (Hosea 1:3)

Answer: Gomer

According to Scripture, Gomer was a prostitute and she became Hosea's wife as a result of instruction from the LORD. Hosea 1:2-3, in the NKJV, states: "When the LORD began to speak by Hosea, the LORD said to Hosea: 'Go, take yourself a wife of harlotry and children of harlotry, for the land has committed great harlotry by departing from the LORD.' So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son." Scripture states the son was called Jezreel.

Incidentally, the NIV Bible refers to Gomer as a "promiscuous woman" rather than a harlot.
9. Find the match for Abraham. (Genesis 25:1)

Answer: Keturah

After the death of Sarah, Abrabham married Keturah. According to Genesis 25:2, she was the mother of five sons. Their names were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. According to Verses 5 and 6, Abraham "left all he had" to Isaac, but while he was still living he gave gifts to the sons of Keturah and other concubines.

Then he "sent the sons eastward, away from Isaac his son," Scripture states.
10. Find the match for Lapidoth. (Judges 4:4)

Answer: Deborah

According to Scripture Lapidoth was the husband of Deborah, the dynamic female judge of Israel and prophetess. (In the NIV, he is known as Lappidoth.) There's no doubt she was a spark plug who made things happen. Her story is told in the fourth and fifth chapters of Judges. Lapidoth, however, is mentioned only once in Scripture, where it simply states he was the husband of Deborah.
