Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for Rizpah. (2 Samuel 21:10)

Answer: Guarding dead bodies

2 Samuel 21 tells of the Gibeonites hanging Rizpah's two sons -- Armoni and Mephibosheth. Scripture goes on to state they were hanged "in the hill before the LORD" in the beginning of the barley harvest.

2 Samuel 21:10 tells of Rizpah, a concubine of Saul, tenderly watching over the corpses of her sons, protecting them from birds and animals. Scripture also states the solemn vigil took place "from the beginning of harvest until the late rains poured on them from heaven."

2 Samuel 21:10, in the NKJV, states: "Now Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it for herself on the rock, from the beginning of harvest until the late rains poured on them from heaven. And she did not allow the birds of the air to rest on them by day nor the beasts of the field by night."

According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, Rizpah's vigil would have stretched from April to October, or from the beginning of the barley harvest to the late rains.
2. Find the match for Jacob. (Genesis 28:10-19)

Answer: Bethel

According to Genesis 28:10-19, it was at Bethel that Jacob had a vision of angels of God ascending and descending on a ladder from heaven. According to Scripture, he was on his way from Beersheba to Haran. Bethel was west of Ai. Bethel is mentioned a number of times in the Old Testament.

The first reference is Genesis 12:8, telling of Abram building an altar to call upon the name of the LORD.
3. Find the match for Ruth and Orpah. (Ruth 1:1)

Answer: Moab

Ruth and her sister-in-law Orpah were both from Moab. According to the Website Christiananswers.net, Moab was east of the Jordan River and the Dead Sea. It bears the modern name of Kerak. (Midian was south of Moab, and Mesopotamia to its east.) Ruth and Orpah were both daughters-in-law of Naomi and when the three women became widows, Orpah opted to return to Moab. Ruth, however, remained with her mother-in-law.

The book of Ruth is largely an account of the romance between Ruth and her second husband, Boaz.

They would become the parents of Obed, who would become the grandfather of King David, as per Ruth 4:17.
4. Find the match for Ahab. (1 Kings 22:40)

Answer: Ahaziah

Ahab and Ahaziah were father and son who served as kings of Israel and are described in Scripture as doing evil in the eyes of the LORD. Ahab reigned for twenty-two years and was replaced by Ahaziah, who reigned two years. Ahab's wife was Jezebel, known as the most evil woman in the Bible. Ahaziah's wife is not named in Scripture.

However, according to 2 Kings 1:17, Ahaziah died without a son and was succeeded by Joram.
5. Find the match for Manoah's unnamed wife. (Judges 13)

Answer: Miracle baby

Scripture states Manoah's unnamed wife was unable to conceive for a number of years until divine intervention took place. The account of Manoah's wife is found in the 13th chapter of Judges. Scripture states the woman was unable to conceive and an angel of the LORD visited her, stating she would give birth to a boy and that a razor should never touch his head.

The angel also stated the boy would "take the lead in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines." The boy, of course, was Samson, who would become a famous Israelite judge.
6. Find the match for Tola. (Judges 10:1-2)

Answer: Judge of Israel

According to Judges 10:1-2, Tola judged Israel for twenty-three years. Scripture states Tola was the son of Puah and the grandson of Dodo and he lived in Shamir in the hill-country of Ephraim.

After Tola's death, Jair became judge of Israel.
7. Find the match for Nebajoth, Kedar, Adbeel and Mibsam. (Genesis 25:13-15)

Answer: Sons of Ishmael

Nebajoth, Kedar, Adbeel and Mibsam were sons of Ishmael, the son of Hagar, an Egyptian, who served as helper for Sarah. The names are of the four sons are listed in the 25th chapter of Genesis, along with the names of eight other brothers. (In the NIV, Nebajoth is called Nebaioth.) The twelve sons of Ishmael all served as tribal rulers, according to Scripture. Genesis 25:18, in the NIV Bible, states this about Ishmael's offspring: "His descendants settled in the area from Havilah to Shur, near the eastern border of Egypt, as you go toward Ashur. And they lived in hostility toward all the tribes related to them."
8. Find the match for Esau. (Genesis 25:25)

Answer: Baby with hair

Esau, according to Scripture, was hairy while his twin brother was "smooth skinned."

Genesis 25:24-26, in the NKJV, tells of Rebekah giving birth to the two boys: "So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb. And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name Esau. Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau's heel; so his name was called Jacob."

In Genesis 27:11, Jacob describes his brother as "a hairy man" and himself as "a smooth-skinned man."
9. Find the match for Moses. (Deuteronomy 3:27)

Answer: Mount Pisgah

According to Deuteronomy 3:27, Moses viewed Canaan from Mount Pisgah, as per the KJV, NKJV and NIV, before the Israelites entered the Promised Land after wandering in the wilderness for 40 years.

According to Christiananswers.net, Pisgah was a mountain summit in the land of Moab, in the territory of Reuben, where Balak offered up sacrifices (Numbers 21:20; 23:14). It was from here Moses viewed Canaan. Before going up to Mount Pisgah, the LORD instructed Moses to commission Joshua to lead the Israelites into the territory.
10. Find the match for Elijah. (1 Kings 18)

Answer: Mount Carmel

Mount Carmel was the location of Elijah's decisive victory over the prophets of Baal in 1 Kings 18. According to Scripture, Elijah and the prophets of Baal had a showdown to see who could call upon a higher power to ignite a sacrificial offering on Mount Carmel. The 450 prophets called on Baal and Elijah called on the LORD with Elijah being the clear winner, according to Scripture.

Carmel was such a lovely place that Solomon even compares the beauty of a bride to it. Song of Solomon 7:5, in the NIV Bible, states: "Your head crowns you like Mount Carmel. Your hair is like royal tapestry; the king is held captive by its tresses."
