Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for Noah. (Genesis 6, 7, 8 and 9)

Answer: Enormous flood

Noah's story can be found in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth chapters of Genesis, and he is one of the better-known characters in the Old Testament. Scripture states the LORD was grieved at the wickedness of mankind and decided to wipe them from the face of the earth. Noah, however, found favor in the eyes of the LORD and he instructed him to build an ark so he and his family could endure a horrific flood that would beset the world, Scripture states. According to Genesis 6:15 in the Common English Bible, the ark was four hundred and fifty feet long, seventy-five feet wide and forty-five feet high.
2. Find the match for Deborah. (Judges 4:4)

Answer: Judge and prophetess

The story of Deborah is told in the fourth and fifth chapters of Judges. In addition to being a judge of Israel, Deborah was a prophetess. There's no doubt she was a spark plug who made things happen. According to Judges 4:2, Jabin king of Canaan ruled over the Israelites who were cruelly oppressed by Sisera, the commander of his army. Things changed dramatically, however, when Deborah rose to power. The Israelites, led by Deborah and her general Barak, scored a decisive military victory over Sisera and their freedom was gained. According to Judges 4:16, "all Sisera's troops fell by the sword; not a man was left."

Deborah's husband was Laidoth but little is known about him as he is mentioned in passing reference.
3. Find the match for Elisha. (2 Kings 6:1-7)

Answer: Floating axhead

The story of the floating axhead appears in 2 Kings 6:1-7. In a nutshell, Elisha and a group of prophets were cutting trees along the Jordan River to build a new place to live when suddenly an axhead fell into the water. The prophet who lost the axhead was apparently filled with distress as it was borrowed. (Talk about flying off the handle!) When Elisha asked the man where the axhead fell, the spot was pointed out to him. 2 Kings, 6:7, in the NIV Bible, states: "Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. 'Lift it out,' he said.

Then the man reached out his hand and took it."
4. Find the match for Ruth. (Ruth 4:17)

Answer: Mother of Obed

Ruth was the wife of Boaz and the mother of Obed, according to Scripture. Ruth 4:17 states Obed was the father of Jesse and Jesse was the father of David, one of the most prominent figures in the Old Testament. In other words, Ruth would have been the great grandmother of David.

According to Ruth 1:4, Ruth was the daughter-in-law of Naomi.
5. Find the match for Bathsheba. (2 Samuel 11:3)

Answer: Wife of Uriah

Uriah was the first husband of Bathsheba, David's most famous wife. After David learned Bathsheba was pregnant through an adulterous affair he had with her, he ended up conspiring to have Uriah murdered. The adultery took place while Uriah, a soldier, was in battle.

After plotting and scheming, David eventually ordered Uriah to be placed in the front line where the fighting was fiercest and then had all the men withdraw, as per 2 Samuel 11:15. True to plan, Uriah was killed.
6. Find the match for Jonathan. (1 Samuel 18:1)

Answer: David's best friend

Even though Jonathan would have been in line to replace his father as king, he was the best of friends with David, the man who would eventually become king of Israel. In fact, their friendship was perhaps unlike any other in the Old Testament. 1 Samuel 18:1, in the NIV Bible, describes their friendship this way: "After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself." Had it not been for Jonathan, Saul might had been successful in his insatiable quest to have David killed.
7. Find the match for Elijah. (1 Kings 17:1-6)

Answer: Fed by ravens

The account of Elijah being fed by ravens is found in 1 Kings 17:1-6. After Elijah told King Ahab there would be "neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word," he got instructions from the LORD to hide by the Brook Cherith, east of the Jordan. 1 Kings 17:5-6, in the NKJV Bible, states: "So he went and did according to the word of the LORD, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan.

The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook."
8. Find the match for Esau. (Genesis 27:1-40)

Answer: Tricked by Jacob

Esau, of course, was beat out by his twin brother Jacob, who tricked his father Isaac into blessing him over Esau. Scripture states Esau was a favorite of his father Isaac, but Jacob was favored by his mother Rebekah. In fact, it was Rebekah that set things in motion to have Jacob get the blessing over Esau.

The devious actions of Rebekah and Jacob can be found in Genesis 27:1-40. Later, Jacob would flee for his life as Esau was going to kill him, as per Genesis 27:41-46.
9. Find the match for Eliab. (1 Samuel 17:13)

Answer: David's oldest brother

David's oldest brother was Eliab. However, it appears Eliab had little appreciation for David. The 17th chapter of 1 Samuel contains the account of David battling and defeating Goliath. Verse 28 tells of Eliab burning with anger. Just prior to David's spectacular victory, Eliab, in the NIV Bible, states: "Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the desert? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle."
10. Find the match for Vashti. (Esther 1)

Answer: Deposed queen

Queen Vashti was deposed after she refused to obey a request of King Ahasuerus. (In the NIV, the king is known as Xerxes.) Esther 1:10 states the king asked Queen Vashti to wear her royal crown and come before him to "display her beauty" to the people and the nobles. Esther 1:12, in the NIV Bible, states: "But when the attendants delivered the king's command, Queen Vashti refused to come.

Then the king became furious and burned with anger." It was the end for her and a new beginning for Esther, who would become queen.
