Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for Zadok. (2 Samuel 15:24-29)

Answer: Carried ark of God

Zadok served as co-priest with Abiathar during the days of King David. 2 Samuel 15 tells of David's son Absalom staging a coup, with Zadok and Abiathar receiving instructions from David to carry the ark of God to Jerusalem.

2 Samuel 15:25-29 in the NKJV states: "Then the king said to Zadok, 'Carry the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the LORD, He will bring me back and show me both it and His dwelling place. But if He says thus: 'I have no delight in you,' here I am, let Him do to me as seems good to Him.' The king also said to Zadok the priest, 'Are you not a seer? Return to the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz your son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar. See, I will wait in the plains of the wilderness until word comes from you to inform me.' Therefore Zadok and Abiathar carried the ark of God back to Jerusalem. And they remained there."
2. Find the match for Adah. (Genesis 4:19)

Answer: Wife of Lamech

Adah's name appears in Genesis 4:19 where it states she married Lamech who took a second wife, Zillah. Scripture states Adah gave birth to Jabal and Jubal. Jabal was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock, while Jubal was the father of those who play the harp and flute, according to Scripture.
3. Find the match for Rehoboam. (1 Kings 12:16-17)

Answer: Israel breaks up

Rehoboam replaced Solomon as king. Scripture reports he got off to a bad start when he ignored the advice of his father's advisers and followed the advice of young men he had grown up with, as per 1 Kings 12. And from there things got worse. The ten northern tribes broke away and before long Rehoboam was left ruling over a much smaller domain than his father Solomon and his grandfather David. According to 1 Kings 14:21, Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he became king and he reigned for seventeen turbulent years.

He was succeeded by his son Abijah.
4. Find the match for Nathan. (2 Samuel 12)

Answer: Rebuked David

The account of Nathan rebuking David is found in the 12th chapter of 2 Samuel. He used a parable to make David aware of the seriousness of his sinning when he had an adulterous affair with Bathsheba and than made arrangements for the murder of her husband. Nathan then made the pronouncement that the child who would be born as a result of the adulterous affair would die, and sure enough it came to pass.

Incidentally, it was Nathan who told an elderly and frail David of the plot of Adonijah to become king.

The end result was that Solomon became king, as per 1 Kings 1:8-45.
5. Find the match for Jesse. (Ruth 4:17)

Answer: Father of David

Jesse was the father of David. According to 1 Samuel 17:17-18, Jesse gave David roasted grain and bread to give to his brothers as well as cheese to the commander of their unit. The Israelites, at the time, were involved in a battle against the Philistines in the area of Sokoh with the two sides occupying two hills and a valley between them, Scripture states.

The same chapter tells how David slew Goliath, with the Israelites scoring a major victory.
6. Find the match for Mephibosheth. (2 Samuel 4:4)

Answer: Lame in his feet

Mephibosheth was the son of Jonathan and grandson of Saul, and Scripture reports he was "lame in his feet." David and Mephibosheth's father were the best of friends. This, even though Jonathan's father Saul devoted much of his latter life trying to kill David. 2 Samuel 9:7 states that David restored to Mephibosheth all the land that once belonged to his grandfather Saul and he ensured he would "always" dine at his table with him.
7. Find the match for Hosea. (Hosea, 1:2-3)

Answer: Married a whore

Hosea was commanded by the LORD to marry Gomer. In Hosea, 1:2-3, in the KJV Bible, God tells Hosea to marry a wife of "whoredom" as an illustration of Israel's infidelity to God. Hosea 1:2-3, in the NIV Bible, states: "When the LORD began to speak through Hosea, the LORD said to him, 'Go, take to yourself an adulterous wife and children of unfaithfulness, because the land is guilty of the vilest adultery in departing from the LORD.' So he married Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son."
8. Find the match for Queen of Sheba. (1 Kings 10)

Answer: Fan of Solomon

The 10th chapter of 1 Kings and the 9th chapter of 2 Chronicles tell of the Queen of Sheba visiting Solomon largely because she had heard so many praiseworthy accounts of the king. Scripture reports she arrived in Jerusalem with "a very great caravan" carrying spices, large quantities of gold, and precious stones. Scripture also reports she was "overwhelmed" with Solomon's wisdom and his immense wealth. According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, Sheba was located in southwestern Arabia, present-day Yemen.
9. Find the match for Queen Athaliah. (2 Kings 11)

Answer: Killed her grandchildren

The sordid story of Queen Athaliah is found in the 11th chapter of 2 Kings as well as the 22nd and 23rd chapters of 2 Chronicles. She was the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel (2 Kings 8:18) and she was the original 'queen of mean'. When her son Ahaziah died, she was unstoppable in her demented mission to have herself installed as queen. To this end, she killed all Ahaziah's children except Joash, the youngest, as per 2 Kings 11:1-2. (The only reason she didn't kill Joash is the fact he was placed in hiding.) In other words she killed her own grandchildren to cement her hold on power.

She reigned for six years and was killed in an insurrection. 2 Kings 11:20 states "all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was calm" when the news was announced Athalia had been killed with the sword at the palace.
10. Find the match for Zelophehad. (Numbers 27:1-7)

Answer: Female rights

According to Scripture, Zelphehad had five daughters and no sons and when he died they were left without an inheritance to land. Numbers 27:2 tells of the daughters making their case before Moses, Eleazar the priest and "the leaders of the whole assembly.

Verses 3 and 4 in the NKJV quote the women as saying: "'Our father died in the wilderness; but he was not in the company of those who gathered together against the LORD, in company with Korah, but he died in his own sin; and he had no sons. Why should the name of our father be removed from among his family because he had no son? Give us a possession among our father's brothers.'"

Verses 6 to 11 tell of Moses taking the case before God with the LORD telling Moses the women had a valid point.

"'The daughters of Zelophehad speak what is right,' the LORD is quoted as telling Moses. 'You shall surely give them a possession of inheritance among their father's brothers, and cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance among their father's relatives and give their father's inheritance to them."

According to Numbers 27:1, the daughter's names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah.
