Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many times does a Muslim pray in a day?

Answer: 5

A Muslim must pray five times a day, but can pray more, if he/she likes. They can also pray Sunnah or Nafil Prayers. Sunnah prayers are highly recommended, but optional. Most pray Sunnah before or after the five daily prayers. Nafil prayers, on the other hand, are optional and are prayed for specific events or circumstances.
2. Salat or prayer is one of the pillars of Islam.

Answer: True

There are five pillars in Islam. These pillars are: belief in one god, prayer, fasting, charity, and pilgrimage. They are also known as: Shahadah, Salat, Sawm, Zakat, and Hajj.
3. What do you call the funeral prayer?

Answer: Salat-al-Janazaa

As a Muslim, when you are born, the Azhaan is said to you. This Azhaan is for your Funeral Prayer or Salat-al-Janazaa. When you pray Salat-al-Janazaa, you say the Iqama and then start to pray.
4. When do you pray Maghrib?

Answer: Sunset

The timing of the prayers are: Fajr - Before Sunrise, Zuhr - Early Afternoon, Asr - Late Afternoon, Maghrib - Sunset, and 'Isha - Night. Furthermore, it is fine if you combine and pray Zuhr and Asr together or Maghrib and 'Isha together.
5. What is Fard Prayer?

Answer: Mandatory

Fard means mandatory, Sunnah is optional but highly recommended, and Nafil is extra and prayed during special circumstances. Fard prayers are the five daily prayers that you must pray. Sunnah prayers are usually prayed before and after the daily prayers. Nafil is for special events and circumstances.
6. What is said to announce the time of prayer?

Answer: Azhaan

The Azhaan (also sometimes written Adhaan) announces the time of prayer, the Iqama is said at the very beginning of the prayer, the Imam leads the prayer, and 'Isha is the last prayer in the day.
7. When do you pray Tahyatul' Masjid?

Answer: When you enter the Masjid/Mosque

Tahyatul' Masjid is a two-rakat Nafil prayer that you pray when entering the Masjid. Masjid is another word for Mosque.
8. Which Surah must you say in every rakat?

Answer: Surah Fatiha

In every rakat, you must say Surah Fatiha. You can then say any other Surah you want afterwards. You do not need to say an entire Surah after Surah Fatiha, because some are much too long. Surah Bakarah, the second surah in the Qu'ran, for example, is usually split up into many shorter parts for prayer.
9. Towards what do you pray?

Answer: The Kabah

When you pray, you must always face the Kabah, so the direction is always different in different parts of the world. The Kabah is located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
10. How many mandatory rakats are in Fajr?

Answer: 2

The mandatory rakats for each prayer are: Fajr - 2, Zuhr - 4, Asr - 4, Maghrib - 3, and 'Isha - 4. When traveling, you can shorten Zuhr, Asr, and 'isha to two rakats each.
