Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the Arabic term for the worship of God (Allah)?

Answer: Ibaadah

The term Ibaadah encompasses all forms of worship. The word Bi'daa is derived from the same root word, but it means "innovation" in worship, something that the Holy Prophet and those in his time never practiced. Dhikr is the term for "remembrance" of God, and may involve reciting certain verses of Qur'an or "duas", or even just admiring the creation of God! Wudhu is the term for "ablution", where a Muslim must purify him or herself before worship.
2. Muslims believe that the Anti-Christ will rise as the end of the world approaches.

Answer: True

In Islam, he is referred to as the 'Dajjal', and will appear during the days immediately preceding the end of the world. He is described as having one eye- he will have two eyes in his head but he will be blind in the right eye. He will attempt to convince mankind that he is God, and will be given the abilities to perform certain "miracles" like bringing a man back to life.

The Dajjal will be killed by Prophet Isa (Jesus) when he returns to the earth. An excellent book on this topic for those wanting more information is "Dajjal the False Messiah" by Imam ibn Kathir.
3. The month that follows the Holy month of Ramadan in the Islamic calendar is called?

Answer: Shawwal

The festival of the breaking of the fast, Eid-ul-Fitr is actually on the first day of Shawwal, not the last day of Ramadan. It is one of the most important dates of the Islamic calendar.
4. The Qur'an is the only text Muslims adhere to.

Answer: False

The Qur'an is seen as the guidebook for all mankind, but it is supported by the collected traditions of the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him), called Hadith. These books were painstakingly compiled by great scholars over time. Some of the most well known names are Imams Bukhari, Muslim, Ahmad, Abu Dawood and An Nasa'i.
5. The first of the five daily prayers is called Fajr. This prayer is performed:

Answer: From the break of dawn until the sun begins to rise

The proof for this can be found in the following authentic Hadith (Tradition):
"The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The time for Subh (Fajr) prayer lasts from the beginning of the pre-dawn so long as the sun has not yet started to rise. When the sun starts to rise then stop praying, for it rises between the two horns of the Shaytaan (Satan)." (Narrated by Muslim, 612)
6. How many letters are there in the Arabic alphabet?

Answer: 28

Did you know that Arabic is written from the right to the left? Even though Arabic is spoken mostly by Muslims, many Muslims do not speak Arabic. Arabic is the language of the Qur'an- the original language it was revealed in and compiled in. Most Muslims believe that translating the Qur'an detracts from its exact meaning, and some religious scholars maintain that it should not be translated at all. 7. What was the Prophet's father's name?

Answer: Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib

Abdullah died about two months before his son was born, according to most historians. Then his father Abd al-Muttalib took over caring for his son, and favoured him over even his own children. After Abd al-Muttalib died, his son Abu Talib took care of Muhammad (peace be upon him). Ali was Muhammad's (peace be upon him) son in law.
8. What was the Prophet's mother called?

Answer: Aminah

Aminah was the daughter of the honorable chief of Bani Zahrah, Wahb bin Abd Manaf. She was chosen due to her nobility of position and descent. When the Holy Prophet was six years old, she took him to visit the grave of his father in Yathrib (Madinah), and on the journey back to Mecca, she died, leaving him an orphan. Barrah, 'Atika and Arwa were the aunts of the Holy Prophet, sisters of his father Abdullah.
9. Unlike the birth of Prophet Isa (May Allah be pleased with him), the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) was NOT accompanied by significant signs/occurrences.

Answer: False

It was reported that a bright light came out of his mother's uterus, 14 balconies of Kisra's palace collapsed, the Magians sacred fire went out and some churches on Lake Sawa sank down and collapsed, amongst other things. (Recorded by At-Tabari, Al-Baihaqi and others)
10. How old was the Holy Prophet when he first received the Revelation from Allah?

Answer: 40

This refers to 40 lunar years, or a little over 39 Gregorian years. Remember, Muslims follow a lunar calendar. The first Revelation was sent down to the Holy Prophet at night during the sacred month of Ramadan.
