Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Daniel

Answer: Lion

Daniel was an Israelite whose wisdom made the foreign kings appoint him to senior administration positions during the time the Israelites were in exile. He was serving in the court of king Darius and God gave him favour with the king. Jealous, the other men of the court sought for ways to discredit him. Finding no fault, they tricked the king into decreeing that no other God was to be served by anyone in the kingdom for thirty days. Daniel refused to obey this and continued to worship God without hiding.

When the king was informed of this, he was forced to throw Daniel in a den of lions. God protected Daniel and closed the mouths of the lions so that he emerged the next day without a scratch on his body.
2. Jonah

Answer: Big fish

God instructed the prophet Jonah to go to Nineveh and preach repentance to the people living there. Disobeying this, Jonah instead set sail in the opposite direction only for the ship to be besieged by a storm. Realising the crew and other passengers were in danger because of his sin, Jonah asked that he be thrown overboard.

A big fish swallowed Jonah and he spent three days and nights in its belly before it spewed him out on dry land.
3. Peter

Answer: Rooster

At the last supper, Jesus told his disciples that all of them would abandon him at the hour of his greatest need. When Peter rejected the possibility of this happening, Jesus said that before the cock crowed in the morning, Peter himself would have denied him three times. Scripture records the events occuring just as Jesus had foretold.

When Peter heard the rooster crow, he remembered Jesus' words and wept bitterly.
4. Isaac

Answer: Ram

To test Abraham's faith, God asked him to take his son Isaac and offer him as a sacrifice. Abraham trusted God fully and took Isaac up a mountain to fulfill God's command. Seeing Abraham's heart, God stopped him from carrying out the task. Instead he showed him a ram trapped in the bushes nearby which Abraham then sacrificed.
5. Aaron

Answer: Calf

When Moses was up on the mountain receiving the Ten Commandments from God, the Israelites grew restless waiting for him to return. They pestered Aaron to create an idol for them to worship. Giving in to their demands, Aaron ordered a golden calf to be made.

The Israelites then began worshipping this idol. When Moses returned, he was dismayed and broke the tablets on which the commandments had been inscribed.
6. Jezebel

Answer: Dog

Jezebel was a wicked queen from the Old Testament. She promoted the worship of idols and persecuted the prophets of God. Her evil behaviour brought curses upon her and when she fell to her death from the window, wild dogs set upon her body.
7. Noah

Answer: Raven

After the ark came to rest upon the mountain, Noah sent out a raven to see if the flood waters had subsided. The raven roamed the earth feeding on the carcasses of the dead. Later Noah sent a dove but it returned to the ark unable to find any branch to perch upon. Noah waited a week and then sent forth the dove again. This time it returned with a fresh olive branch in its beak.
8. Jesus

Answer: Dove

Jesus was baptised in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. At the baptism, a dove descended on Jesus' head and a voice from heaven proclaimed, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased." (Matthew 3:17)
9. Balaam

Answer: Donkey

The account of Balaam, a pagan prophet in the Old Testament, is found in the book of Numbers. When the Israelites were on their way to the Promised Land, they approached the kingdom of Moab. Fearing them, the king called for Balaam enlisting his help in dealing with the Israelites.

At first Balaam refused knowing God did not want him to go. Repeated pleas from the king caused him to relent and ask God permission to go. God allowed him to go provided he only spoke what God commanded him to. However when Balaam set out on his donkey, God saw that his heart was not pure and sent an angel to block his path.

The donkey seeing the angel refused to go ahead. Balaam's eyes were covered by God hiding the angel from his sight. Unable to understand the donkey's hesitation Balaam hit the donkey.

This happened thrice before the Biblical account claims the donkey began to talk to Balaam.
10. Eve

Answer: Serpent

Eve was created as a companion for Adam. Except for the Tree of Knowledge, they were allowed to eat anything they wanted and given authority over all the beasts and birds. Eve however succumbed to temptation when the serpent approached her and convinced her to eat the forbidden fruit.

She also led Adam to sin by sharing the fruit with him eventually resulting in the banishment of them from the Garden of Eden.
